The PDGA needs to do something about their rating system in comparison to divisions. At Bowling Green this weekend REC Champions shot -9 down and would have finished 3rd place in BOTH INT and ADV. COME ON PDGA...it's going to get to the point the ACTUAL Rec players don't play in tournaments because of ALL of the sandbagging. Or it may already be there.
Just an opinion!

PDGA Rating System SUCKS
Re: PDGA Rating System SUCKS
It isn't the rating system. The limits on Player rating need to be enforced. This may have been different, because people registered for the tourney then we had a ratings update.
As for Recs not playing tournaments. A true Rec wouldn't play. That is why we should just go players pack in all AM divisions with the exception of advanced, and advanced masters.
Entry could be cheaper and you should be guaranteed you $$ worth in a Players pack. $30 entry get a disc and shirt or 2 discs when you sign-up. Then only play for a trophy for overall or top 1/3.
Then when people are "ready" to compete, they can move to Open.

Re: PDGA Rating System SUCKS
I LOVE the way DD runs their tournemants with Rec being trophy only. That allows true Rec players to still compete without knowing someone is sandbagging for payout. But for the PDGA to allow a 92? rated player to compete with a 85? or 86? rated player because their division qualifications allow it, isn't right. There is a HUGE difference in skill level when it comes to these type of scenarios. I guess I'm saying that the PDGA should change the Rec rating to around 900. And the same goes for Advanced players playing down with Int players. Maybe the PDGA could come with a way to help eliminate this problem, and then when they are done with that they could cure cancer...feed the hungry...and shelter the homeless!
Because I realize this complaint is miniscule compared to ALL the other problems in the world?
Maybe with the way gas prices are going, we should ALL be playing for vouchers at the pump!

This wasn't the case in this scenario. But isn't it the TD's responsibilty to not allow this to happen because if they register as one rating and by the tournament rolls around if their rating is above the allowed limit then they have to play up? I thought that was a PDGA rule for the scenario you describe Smitty, which makes players play in the division they are qualified for at the time the tournament is played, not when they register? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: PDGA Rating System SUCKS
In Jackson's defense, he placed 62nd last year in Rec. He had no wins but some solid finishes in other Rec tournaments. This is not a sandbagger. This is one guy shooting above his ratings, it happens. If you only have one complaint out of 631 players, the system can't be that bad.

Re: PDGA Rating System SUCKS
Don't get me wrong, the rating of the player I commented about I think was 10 or so points under 900. I don't for a second believe he sandbagged. I just think the PDGA could come up with a little better system of grouping players. If a player were to win Rec with a 929 rating, and would have finished 2nd or 3rd in Int and Adv divisions...then those are the type of scenarios I'm talking about.
I apologize for using him as an example!

Re: PDGA Rating System SUCKS
i thought Int. was capped at 925. Is that not right? A current TD should be able to answer. That means rec should be 900 or even a little lower cap.

I just realized a flaw in my opinion. I strike all comments and would like to say "Senator I do not recall!"
Re: PDGA Rating System SUCKS
Rec is capped at 899... if you rated above this you must play Intermediate. Intermediate is capped out at 935, so if you are above that you are required to play Advanced. Advanced has no hard cap. If you are rated above 970 and have accepted cash in Open then you must play in a Pro division. You have the option of petitioning the PDGA to regain your amateur status, but good luck...nastyNate wrote:i thought Int. was capped at 925. Is that not right? A current TD should be able to answer. For the most part, yes. When a player pre-registers for a tournament they should be placed in the division they are currently rated for. If a player's rating changes and bumps them UP a division more than two weeks previous to the tournament date they must be moved up to that division. However, the PDGA provides a grace period for updates occuring within two weeks of a tournament that bumps a PRE-REGISTERED player up a division. The important part here is the pre-registration. If Joe Blow isn't pre-registered and signs up the day of, but the rating update that week bumped him up... sucks to be him and he has to play in the higher division from what I understand.kselrod wrote:I thought that was a PDGA rule for the scenario you describe Smitty, which makes players play in the division they are qualified for at the time the tournament is played, not when they register?
