OB Updates

There are a couple of changes being made to the map OB notes that aren't exactly changes, but clarifications.

Hole 10 at Herman Hill: Bushes near police parking in landscaped area is OB. There is a threshold the makes a very clear OB line.

Hole 9, HH. Same thing with box beyond short pin, but I believe this was already marked.

Hole 5, HH. There are 2 mandos for this hole. One is for the long pads. The other is ONLY for the short pad.

Hole 2, HH. The fenced area around the tower is OB.

Hole 18, HH. There is a 50' section of fence missing just past the long pin. The OB line should be from fence to fence. It is not safe if you throw through the gap of missing fence. We'll string it for the Doo Dah.

Hole 12, HH. This is the one that the interpretation has changed on. It has always been on or across sidewalk is OB. Question was "which sidewalk?" that wasn't really address. We'll play it all sidewalk and across OB except the 2 sections you MUST throw over that run from the road to just before and just after the bridge. I'll flag these off. This is consistent with all the other holes, which make the area around the WATER center OB. This OB just extends out a bit farther. Only a factor really from the short tee. You want to make sure you don't hit that first branch and land on the sidewalk. It'll pretty much be a re-tee!

River, Herman Hill. If you are on the riverbank, you can take a free 1-meter drop on the top. This isn't something on the map, but a rule those who know can take advantage of. The river has been way down lately. I think where the sand meets the bank is a pretty clear line and would like to make the river bottom OB, even if dry. I don't know if I can get away with this one. For now it will be safe. For the DooDah, though, we'll string line along the top of the bank.



Hole 8 at Oak. The sidewalk (and across) is safe on this hole only.

Hole 18 at Oak. There are a lot of people who don't know there is a drop zone. I'll try to get it marked soon. We may end up getting a pad there sometime. I see a lot of casual players throwing shot after shot in and then getting in the nasty water. They could just skip the formality of laying their disc down in the water next to them and just go throw from the drop zone throwing their 3rd shot. This goes for league too.

Look for some OB changes to both the new tournament maps for both courses and the regular course map for both courses.

There will be a couple of mandotories for holes 6 and 7 to improve the safety on these holes. Some trees have been planted that will eliminate this need as soon as they mature enough. These will be in play just for the tournament.

The river OB has long been unclarified. For the tournament, we will rope of the bank at Herman Hill. For regular play though, the side of the riverbank will be safe with a free 1 meter drop on top. The riverbed is OB, even if dry.

For Oak, we play the tournament the same as regular, but this will be new to the course. For the river holes, the bank will be the OB line. The riverbed is OB. You have to be laying on top to be safe.

Some other changes to the map that aren't really changes are the fenced tower area on 2 at HH. The landscaped area on 9 and 10 at HH.

There is a drop zone at Oak for both tees on hole 18. This should be for tourney, league, and casual play. Eventually we may get a permanent mark, but it will be flagged for now. Basically by the road. If you go in the water you can play from the drop zone throwing 3. Also, you can play your 3rd shot from the DZ without attempting the drive. In the past it has been the 4th shot, but I believe this encourages some players to drop there disc in the water next to the long tee (and then retrieve it), which is pointless. Also, we don't want a lot of people getting in the pond. Anyone who has a chance at clearing this throw would want to make an attempt. This is basically for those players throwing less than 250'.

mike i think it would be best to make the top safe and any thing over the line at herman OB. If they have to crawl down the slope to get their disc they should be OB. If you string a line along the bank then Its an OB line period. You dont give free drops from the other side of an OB line with out alot of confusion . OB IS OB. Other wise run your line along the bottom and then they can choose to take a CHARGED drop or throw from where they are. Heck its just PDGA rules . Over and OB line Is out and You take a drop and charged a stroke. Lets stick to the standard PDGA rules and set a true OB LINE.

I don't think you read it correctly.

For the tournament, we'll string an OB line on top. Anything over the line is OB.

For the regular layout, on the bank is safe with a free drop. The riverbed is OB though, dry or wet.

Ok I may have missed that . but even for regulare play we shoulld play it that way. We only cheat our selves by not doing so. We get used to playing it one way, and then during a tourney we play it the other, we dont train or condition our throw to be that little bit extra safe and stay in bounds.It's like playing in winfield where on top of the baskit is conciderd holed out but in real life any where else its not . LOL

We've been playing the bank as safe with a free drop (safety reasons) for years. But it has never been on the map. We cannot string the bank all year.

Rather, I'd like to use the regular OB for the tournament. Most people would rather see string, though I dont' think we bother with this for the Round Up.

Speaking of string... I've got to run league and have a ton of circles to paint on Friday and some other jobs as well. If someone could get with me on Tuesday and get my hammer, nails, and string and take care of the River OB on 6 and 14-17, that would help a ton. I don't think I'll have time to do it. Someone will need to get with me tomorrow.

I forgot again to announce the course OB. It is the riverbank at both courses. If you are actually on the bank, it is safe and you get a free meter from the top. If you are laying in the riverbed and not touching the bank, you are OB.

There is a drop zone pad now installed on hole #18 at Oak. Here is the way this hole will be played for league and tournaments.

*Anyone so choosing can throw their tee shot from the drop zone. They would be throwing their 3rd shot. The main reason for this is for players who lack the needed skill to clear the pond from the long tee. There is no realistic safe shot here. If there is no drop zone, this could be a tin cup situation that would be frustrating to some. It's no fun to lose discs and not a whole lot of fun to get in that algae infested water. Basically, this special rule would be equivalent to a player (teeing on the long tee) throwing their disc 5 feet laterally in the water, retrieving their disc, and going to the drop zone. Except no need to drop your disc in the water.

*If a player decides to tee their drive as normal from the red or blue pad, and the drive goes into the water, they have 3 options, as is normal for drop zones.
1) Re-tee the shot throwing 3.
2) Play up to a meter from where it was last in bounds, throwing the 3rd shot.
3) Play the 3rd shot from the drop zone.

*If a drive goes out of bounds, and not in the water, the player does not have the option to play from the drop zone.

NOTE:
---By "water", it means pond. A player throwing in the river from the short tee doesn't have the drop zone option.

---A shot that hits the rocks on the far end before dropping back into the pond can be played from the far side. I've heard arguements against this, but since the rocks are in, this should be considered the last point inbounds. In this case, playing from the far side near the basket would be much better than playing the drop zone.

---A shot that hits the rock wall to the left before going in the pond gives some options. According to the rule of verticality, if there are multiple playing surfaces within 1 meter of OB at the point where a disc was last inbounds, a player may choose his lie along the vertical plane. Meaning that a player could play their shot from the top of the cliff face, or hanging onto the rock wall from below, or over at the drop zone.
