Riverfront Park Lawrence
Riverfront Park Lawrence
I don't know who designed the Riverfront park in Lawrence last summer, but my buddies and I finally got to play it yesterday. You definatly deserve props. The course is excellent! well laid out. Lots of variation. It was definatly worth a detour to play.
Definitely a cool course!
Due to (essentially) having 9 teepads/tee-areas and 18 pins (2/pad)...the door is open for creativity. In any game (Wolf, singles, dubs) we decided that he who owns the box gets to select the pin. When playing singles (or dubs) you can throw 2 drives and play 18 holes while walking 9. Would be a beotch to play backwards...

2 existing baskets on each hole? That is kinda crazy. Only heard of a couple of courses like that. Is there room to transfer these baskets to 9 new holes?doc wrote:Definitely a cool course!

What is the course like? Is it flat with shots along the river? What type of trees?
Pretty flat overall...not sure about room for expansion. Some WIDE open holes and some woodsier ones, too. It ain't Water Works, but it's new and less than 8 minutes from my front door! (Centennial is less than 5 minutes; Clinton Lake is prolly 15 minutes; WyCo is 22-25 minutes; Olathe is 30-35 minutes.)
There WILL BE hella~skeeters...as I've already seen quite a few with this warm weather...though they ain't biting, yet.

WOW! Just returned from a 54 hole excursion that took around 2 - 2.5 hours...3 times around playing both baskets via 2 drives off each tee....along with several 'what ifs'. That there is quality and quantity practice!
Ran into Nate Marshall on the course...he said there's definitely room for more expansion and since there's already 18 baskets all that's needed is more forest cleared, tee areas raised, and the aquisition of at least 9 more sleeves. Pretty cool!
Enjoy the course NOW, as when the rains come with warmer temps it will be skeeter thick out there with lots of pooling water due to all the river clay...
