2015 Discs Unlimited Open Update

Two Courses More Fun Faster Play

Chance to play a new course designed by BBD&D (player and course designer consortium with over 100 years combined experience)

Lunch and Green Fees included in entry fee

First 50 Am players to pre-register receive player packs.

Father Padilla Course will be 18 holes-not 20- like in years past.

The woodchip hole is removed. Hole 2 plays to same spot as last year with no mando. Hole 4 at the north end of the pond will play to pin 5 at the south end of the pond. The pin behind the bandstand has only one tree by it since the east tree has been cut down. This will be an island hole. Pros and Advanced may possibly have to Tin Cup it to finish the hole.

Field limited to 144

Please pre-register by March 25 so we know how many to expect for lunch.

Its my first time to the DU Open and I'm signed up and looking forward to it! The first round tees at 10:00am, does anyone have an approximate of the 2nd round tee time? I'm having to juggle a schedule later that day.

I thought the tournament was definitely a learning experience for players and directors.

One of the concerns I had was the amount of time it took to play both rounds and I thought the awards presentation was a complete disaster. It was 6PM before the last card I think was turned in. Then we had the raffle then an hour of ring of fire. For anyone who got a payout which 2 of my passengers did we waited 2.5 hours after we finished our round to get awards.

One of the things this tournament advertised was faster play. That was only true at Father Padilla park. We didn't leave town till after 7pm and for me that is way too long of a day. I remember playing father Padilla the last few years with 4-5 players a hole being done and gone by 6.

The country club was a nice course, however hole 1 and 2 I'd like to see the basket in better locations instead of throwing two blind shots. One thing I've noticed with 9 hole ball golf courses is the whole course gets utilized. I did think the country club flowed really well. Had a nice variety of shots to be thrown on drives and short and long holes which is what you expect.

Country Club: The marking of holes and tee pads was absolutely pathetic. Using 1 foot tall miniature flags with little paint is unacceptable.i heard a lot of people saying they were just throwing blind and walking till they found the tee box. One guy mentioned to me he felt like he walked the course twice because he had to find every basket first then run or walk back to tee box. There should have been signs or arrows all over the place.

Overall it was another good tournament with a great turnout. I anticipate returning next year, I would love to see an earlier start next year just by half hour to hour sooner.

I do hope people realize that this was the first year that the CC course was used. The first time around, when absolutely no one except the designers are familiar with the layout, there's always going to be a lot of extra walking to holes, extra time to check where baskets are, etc. I do agree that the tees needed to be marked a lot better. Two flags at each tee with different colored flags helping point the way to the next one would help with navigation considerably.

Otherwise, another great event by Dennis and the DU crew.

My scores for my rounds were 77 and 65 and should have added up to 142. Don Z beat me by four strokes at the CC and I beat him by one at the park. He should have had beat me by three for the day.
