THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
Re: THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
Thanks to everyone who came out to play this year. We had 15 of the 34 players who played singles this year show up for the end of the year event. The fund was at $149. I spent $55 on beer and soda, leaving $94 for payout. We played 2 rounds of short pads at Lakewood South with all baskets in short. Partners were matched based on players handicap.
Place- Payout- Player 1- Handicap- Player 2- Handicap- Score
1st- $30- Phil Sc. (+1) & Quinn B. (+13) -16
2nd- $24- Jordan C. (+1) & Tanner P. (+10) -13
3rd- $18- Scott D. (+5) (Cali) -12
4th- $12- Austin S. (-3) & Damien D. (+15) -11
5th- $10- Tim B. (+3) & Thomas W. (+7) -10
6th- Taylor L. (E) & Brandon S. (+14) -9
7th- Rod C. (+3) & Brett P. (+10) -8
8th- Mike W. (+2) $ Aaron M. (+10) -6
Would like to hear peoples thoughts on handicapped league. Do we want to do it again next year? Do we want to go back to pro and am divisions? Do we want to run it like a points race again? Do you have any other ideas?

Re: THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
handicap is fine, we just need to have two divisions. i dont mind donating, but there is virtually no chance for me to win in an all division open handicap. i have to break the course record to do it unless i intentionally bag to set mine. no different than open straight scoring is unfair to the ams.

Re: THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
We dealt with the same issue years ago when Ben ran the handicap league. The idea was to give am's the advantage and keep them interested in coming out. That was back when our main goal was promoting the sport and growing the league. Not sure that's our main goal anymore. Then pro's just accepted the fact there's no chance they'll win and considered it a donation each week. That's why we drifted to a doubles league to make it easier and more fair. I like the idea of a singles handicap league. I wish I'd of participated more this year. Too much going on. I'm sure there's a way to make it more fair for the Nate's of this day and age. Or maybe we could keep him interested knowing that the more you participate the more free beer you get at the end of the year?
Re: THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
lol Rich. some great incentive there! could at least buy a bottle of something good once a year!
I have already stated i am fine with handicap and fine with donating. stroke play even it out. you wont ever see me quitting or bagging to get a better handicap. the first five years i played singles league i knew going in that i had almost no chance to win so this is nothing new, just opposite circumstances. i need the practice and the competition. simple enough.

Re: THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
Singles league for 2014. We will be doing a handicap system again this year.
The main change for this year is that every five weeks your highest score drops. As long as you have 3 rounds or more for the year.
The link for handicaps is in my signature below. I entered some data as an example of the change.
The first league will be
on 4/10/14 on the South Side of Lakewood at 6pm sharp.
Cost will be $5. In years past we have had $4 for payout, with $1 going to a fund we spend on beer at the end of the year. We will decide how we want to do it on 4/10/14 at the first league.

Re: THURSDAY NIGHT SINGLES GOLF
The rule was if you do not have a handicap you have to take the best handicap while you set your own handicap. Since the best handicap is so big this year we decided to let ams take no handicap there first two weeks. Pros still have to take the best handicap.
