Re: Oak Park
Quite luckily, they happened to have welded the 2 buckets we needed the worst: #2 and #5. They look good. I took measurements for new outer rings & nickels. 8 baskets with msg or damaged outer rings and 4 missing nickels. I'm trying to get these made. Then we can put new number stickers on the nickels. Welder said we could get other needed work done before the Doo Dah.

Re: Oak Park
Bill is meeting with the welder out at Oak on Wednesday the 19th at 10am to fix baskets. If anyone is there, you might see if they could use a hand.
A list of some repairs below.
-There are 4 baskets missing nickels. Practice basket, Hole 2, Hole 4, & Hole 6.
-The outer ring needs replaced or repaired on the practice basket, hole 5, hole 7, hole 11, hole 12, hole 16, & hole 17. On a couple of these, we could probably just make sure the chains are in the right place and have the welder weld the ring together where there is now a gap. On the ones we replace, we'll have to get the old out of the chains & off the pole, put the new one on, & weave it through the chains correctly.
-For the practice basket, there is a chain outside the outer ring which should go through it. So the old ring would need cut off so a new one could be welded on.
-On hole 15, the basket could use some new welds to the pole. Getting to look a bit like hole #2.
-On hole 18, there is a single chain link that is crooked. It is bent the wrong direction inside another link because the inside diameter of the other link is the same size as the chain thickness. It looks like it just needs tweaked with a couple pairs of plyers so it will be straight again.
-We need to reset baskets 12 & 14 in the ground sometime. They are leaning. Just need shovels for this.

Re: Oak Park
Workday Thursday 5/27 & Saturday 5/29
Mike Speer has organized a workday for this Saturday, starting about 10am at Oak. Last weekend to work on the course. Items to take care of:
-Getting all of the woodchip pile on the course. Actually, we might leave a small amount in case of heavy rain just before the tournament. If that happens, the low area on holes 11 & 12 may get really muddy and need some chips. On the other hand, we don't want a huge pile left getting wet & heavy. Bring flat shovels & rakes. Plastic leaf rakes seem to work good.
-Levelling baskets 12 & 14. Will need to dig them up, shift them until level and pack the dirt back on top.
-Painting red & blue stencil numbers & triangles on the tee pads. Sweep them off first. Herman Hill needs this as well. Probably will need 3-4 more cans each of that red & blue Rustoleum paint from Wal-Mart. Mike will bring stencils, shovels, rake, smaller truck.
For those who are going out of town this weekend, there will be another workday this Thursday. Bo Carrasco will be there around 11am and probably stick around most of the day until league at 6pm. Just shovelling chips onto the course. The clubs big scoop shovel is in the clubhouse if someone want to borrow keys (need it back at league), but Bo said he'd have a few tools. Focus is any muddy areas on the course or any tees that aren't level with the ground. Main areas are the first 5 holes. Greens, front & back of tees, standing places adjacent to tees, wooded trails from long tees, etc. Wherever there it needs it and used porportionately to the supply. I told them to bring them Wednesday or Thursday, so there is a chance they won't be there by 11am. I asked for 1/3 load, which is a little less than earlier this spring, so shouldn't be too much to get on the course. We'll rake it up again and sweep the pads just before the tourney.
Herman Hill didn't look like it needed much work. But if any muddy areas or unlevel tees are found, there is a woodchip pile next to the Water Center if needed.
Later next week, Crispin & Bo could use some help painting circles, stringing OB, flagging tees, etc. Give me a holler if I can help get you in contact with them.
Lenny Edwards & I will mark locations needing trimming at Oak and he will meet with Forestry.
Also: if you know someone who can help watch the Water Center one or both days, we could use it. That way the building can stay unlocked and people can come in and use the restroom, get water, etc. And let me know if you can help with the tourney weekend stuff or bring a water cooler.
Thanks!
Call me with any questions: 612-7896. I'll be out of town Friday eve to Sunday eve, so get ahold of me before then.

Re: Oak Park
Thanks to Bo Carrasco, Russ Horning, & Jeremiah Emrich for kicking butt out there today. Looked like they got all the chips thrown before the rain.
Saw a lot of areas that still need chips though. So I asked the parks to deliver another load tomorrow. That way the workday will be a go this Saturday. Mike needs help, please come out if you can. Need a bigger truck if you have one. He'll be there close to 10am with a couple shovels & rakes. Hopefully the chips are there. We need to get them in front of unlevel or muddy tees, around greens, other muddy areas like next to 3's short pad & 5's long pad, wooded trails for 2 & 5, etc. We can save a little back until Thursday when we see the forecast for the weekend. If there is more rain in the week or for the weekend, we may need to put some down on 11 at that time. If its dry, we can just throw it on the practice green or 6's short tee if someone has a wheelbarrow. We'll rake it all back up nice Thursday night for the tourney.
Levelling 12 & 14 shouldn't be tough. Mike knows whats up. Painting tees if no chips to haul.
Also, painted some trim locations and Parks should be meeting with us to discuss getting this done next week. And I'm trying like heck to get both of these courses mowed again before the tourney!

Re: Oak Park
OAK, What's done....Woodchips spread everywhere, but holes 11& 12. (we can talk about that at the meeting on Tues.) Baskets 12 & 14 leveled. Heard tale of some trimming, but can neither confirm nor deny.
What's left, mowing, tree trimming. painting tees (Russ and I will take care of that). OB and/or Mando marking. Nickels?
Hermin, What's done, mowed (trying to get it done again before tourney). All but 3 tee pads painted.
What's left, OB string and mando markings. (to be done later next week), leveling 1's tee pad,Monday @ 9:30am. (Bill P. heading that up.) Tee sign/pics replaced? (Iqbal?)
I have a list of the volenteers and the hours worked if anyone tracks or needs them.

Re: Oak Park
Good news! Trimming is getting done today at Oak. And they are finishing the mowing, which we thought wasn't going to happen. And Lenny is finishing spraying the tee pads. Crispin getting new numbers on the new nickels. Circles hopefully by end of the week. Chips already done. Things are looking NICE! Thanks for everyone's hard work on the course.

Re: Oak Park
There will be a list of things to do to prepare the courses for the tournament. I will try to post when it is more refined, but feel free to initiate discussion.
Usually the biggest job every year is stringing OB at Herman Hill and spreading woodchips at Oak Park. For the woodchips, we have a pile by 5's green that has been there ever since the tourney last year. We need to get these on the course before we can ask for any more. It is probably compressed and will be harder to shovel being mostly off the road, but we have to get rid of it. It has been relatively dry so far this spring, but they are calling for a wet week ahead, possibly starting next Wednesday. Shovelling wet chips is really no fun.
If you have a truck and a shovel, feel free to get the chips on the course. Holes one through 5 are always the ones needing them the worst. Any bare spots around tees, greens, or paths from tees. Anywhere it could get muddy. We can get more chips after this pile is gone and touch things up and make it look nice before the tourney, but right now, we just need to get rid of this pile. No need to wait for an organized workday.

Re: Oak Park
I noticed some of the nickels were again missing at Oak. These were welded on just last year. I found 4 extra that Bill made up last year in the Herman Hill clubhouse.
I could ask to have these fixed if someone can do a course report. During a round out there, can someone take notes, or mental notes, of all the holes missing nickels? How about the stickers on the nickels: which holes are missing the hole number? Are the chain rings messed up on any holes? Get back with me and let me know what you find and I will try to get some help again with this. Thanks.

If there are some leaning or loose baskets, I should know about this too. We could get this fixed before the tournament. Same goes for Herman Hill Park.

Re: Oak Park
As Buddy said at league, the easiest way to get rid of this pile of chips would be to dump it on 5's green and the practice basket. After the pile is mostly gone, the rest could probably be spread on the path leading to 6's short tee and near the tee itself. Could use a wheelbarrow if you don't have a truck. There is a big scoop shovel in the clubhouse we could lend out, but a pitchfork or standard shovel and rake might work best for this pile, since it is off the road and has compressed over a year. I need to let the parks department know ASAP if we need more chips. We will need more, it's just a matter of getting rid of the pile that's there now.

Re: Oak Park
wish i knew someone with a cat or a tractor with a bucket loader . That would make that job alot faster. Those old chips are almost dirt by now.
