Winter League

Post by smitty »

I think that we should do some kind of 2 man team league this winter. Have it travel between several courses and you always have the same partner.

We could play several different formats (not always best shot doubles). We could make it so the teams were pretty even.

It would take a total commitment out of all the people playing. We could set it up like a bowling league or something so you would show up and play a certain team on a certain day.

Courses
Winfield
-Cherry
-Pecan
-Canyon

Wellington

Mulvane

Derby

Wichita
-Herman Hill
-Oak Park

We could make up the schedule in advance so people could plan.

Iowa does something like this with their Bushwacker league. Greenleaf was telling me how much fun it was.

You can check it out at iowadg.com under Des Moines leagues.

Let me know some thoughts and ideas.

Sounds fun, we will have to make sure we plan well in advance so I can check with my employer and get off work.

You will either draw for you partner, or we could match them up based on skill level. Top with bottom and so on.

If people sign-up, it will be important that they play every weekend. If not, we will have to get some kind of a sub system.

It will be hard to get people to be able to play every weekend.

when thier money is on the line people have a tendency to commit. run it like a bowling league. have people sign up and pay a league fee say 15-25 bucks, but offer something for it such as a shirt or doubles league disc . (I could dye up something) Then after every one is signed up set up your teams. Also every week have them pay 7 bucks just like you pay for your lanes and shoes each week in bowling. But each week you pay out 2 bucks of that to the top team. after the set league schedual then have the big pay out to say the top 3, 5, 7 or what ever the top third is. tropheys or plastic cash what ever. Try it out for say 8 weeks and see what happens if it goes well push it up to 13-15 weeks next year just like a bowling season.

You have some pretty good ideas there Lizard! I cannot belive I just said that. The would need to be revamped a little, but they are pretty good.

Schedule:

Cherry Street
Wellington
Herman Hill
Mulvane
Pecan Grove
Wellington
Oak Park
Derby

That would be 8 weeks. It wouldn't have to be done every weekend. You could skip weekends as needed. That would give time for make up events. I put Wellington on the schedule twice, so that would get to stay home twice like Wichita and Winfield.

For people who didn't want to commit to playing every league, they could be a "sub" and fill in as needed.

I don't really want to play doubles. I think then you rely to much on the better team member. I want to do something that every stroke counts for every person.

I will read some more on the Bush Wacker League in Des Moines and see what they do.

well if some one from wichita will commit to it and let me carpool to the winfield and wellington weekends I'm in. Just gets to cold on the bike in the winter to go that distance . Frozen hands do not throw discs well. Any idea smitty what the buy in cost will be?

I also like the idea of playing two man team but each persons score adds to the total score of the team. . strait up golf just add up the scores of the two . lowest total score of the teams win each week. and lowest for the totals season wins.

I think that you would do it a little different then add up scores and lowest total wins.

Each person would get a handicap. Then the two man teams would play each other. The #1 player on a team vs. the #1 player on the other team. #2 vs #2 on the other team, then a point for the lowest combined score after handicaps.

Each match would be worht 3 points then. You could win all 3 if you won both matches. You could win 2 or 1 if you won a match and had the better or lower combined score. Any ties after 18 holes would have to be played off.
