Mike ran event
Oak Park
Red Tees

17 players
Single digit wind chills.

9 Open players
Scooba: 50
Ben Maass: 55
Chad: 57

8 Handicap division players
Andy Horning: 63-14=49
Deb Imel: 65-10=55
Robin Reimer: 67-12=55
Josh Luinstra: 62-7=55

4 women braved the frigid temps and played hard. Deb set a handicap on the short tees last weekend and cashed with only a 10 stroke handicap. I heard that she beat some of the pros! That would include me.

Oak Park
Short Tees

17 Players
35 mph south wind

Open (9)

Jeff: -2
Scooba: -1
Crispin: +1
Josh Hull: +1

Handicap (8 )

Lizard: 59-10=49
Josh L.: 58-7=51
Robin: 65-12=53

Not to bad for scores considering that was some killer wind. Twice on my card, there was a 20 foot putt for birdie that ended up in a 5.

Next Tues. is singles at Herman. Blue tees, I believe.

I know I screwed up a birdie chance on 16. Disc was hyzering right for the basket from about 30 some odd feet when the edge lifted up and showed the bottom to the wind. the wind caught it and lifted it right over the basket and it landed about ten feet from the road but the wind just pushed it up the hill and over the road and up the curb on the other side. That left me an Ob drop shot against the wind back down to the basket which of course was lifted up again and hit the hole marker on the top of the basket. I went from a very posible chance of ending up 2 or 3 over to a 5 overpar . still a great round for me.

Yeah, I'll post all the info tonight.

I did have one question come up last night. I was asked why a players handicap went down a stroke when the last round logged was not below their handicap.

While this is very rare, it did happen. But, it is the scoring average that is the key here, not the handicap number. If you shoot below your scoring average, your handicap could go down.

Josh I don't undersand what you meen by a round being thrown out for being above average. I never really did understand handicaps and stuff. Mike when you post whoes rounds got tossed couls you also explain what this meens and why . heck i just go out and throw and try to have fun . some of this is really technical and I don't get technical stuff some times..lol

Here's how the handicap system works.

All players who finish their round during singles league get their rounds re corded.

The handicap is figured (rounded to the nearest whole number) at 80% of the difference between a players scoring average and 52. That handicap number equates roughly with the number of strokes you average over par 54, but not always the same.

Only a player's 8 most recent rounds are included.

For players who already have 3 rounds logged, future scores need to be reasonably close to their scoring average to count. I use a specific method to determine this. Within 9 strokes of the scoring average for players who's average is in the 50's. Within 10 for players in the 60's. Within 11 for players in the 70's and up.
