I got this from Larry Pankratz today.
"If you want some history to put in about the KSU-Manhattan campus course. Gordon Plank, Randy Schroeder and myself marked it off in 1977, we didn't use disc holes we just used objects. Like Trees, sculptures, and poles."
Also, Larry & Dennis were both involved with setting up the original Salina course.
Also FYI Larrys wife is now one of the head honcho's with the State Parks & Rec.

I have heard that Ed had a part in it as well. It was the first course in Kansas. Would love to see the baskets in the ground again! Kind of nice that the founder of modern disc golf took part in the first Kansas course! Not sure how big a role he played. Good information!Friz-Rocker wrote:I talked to Harvey Barger today and he said Lindsborg was designed and installed only by Ed Headrick the founder of the DGA. He said it was the first course in Kansas.
the tees at lindsborg are natural, and there is no course there, Ed's daughter attended Bethany Colledge, and he designed and installed the course while she was there.
Historicly the baskets were used for the octoberfriz, picked up and then replaced after the event, they made there anual pilgramage a few years back and did not make the return trip, seems like someone thought that Winfield needed them more than Lindsborg.

I installed 12 baskets on the Ashland, KS High School grounds. I finished the installation and played my first round on April 13, 2006. I was going to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony after all the baskets were sponsered but that project has proved harder than everyone here in town lead on. I have 5.5 baskets sponsored with promises from several others.
The baskets are homemade, built by Ryan Dyck. All the tees are grass except for tee #1 which is concrete (sidewalk), The tees are marked with a bright orange 4"x4"x4' Board embedded in the ground. I have plans to stencil the basket numbers and distances on the boards. The distances are as follows: #1 - 386', #2 - 268', #3 - 297', #4 - 225', #5 - 381', #6 - 264', #7 - 501', #8 - 339', #9 - 486', #10 - 350', #11 - 234', #12 - 300' There is room for 6 more baskets if there are enough sponsors. There are brand new bathrooms at the end of the football field.
Directions are very simple. From Dodge City: Go south on 283 through Minneola and south 19 miles where 283 turns East into 160. 11 miles to Ashland. Course is on the West end of Ashland. Basket # 6 is about 40' from the highway. Turn North just East of the Vet Clinic and then back West into the HighSchool Parking area. From Pratt, Go West through Greensburg then South on 183. Go through Coldwater and then turn West on 160 about 5 miles South of Coldwater. 24 Miles to Ashland.
Tee #1 is the sidewalk/entryway on the East/Central side of the High School facing the East along the drive that you came in. Basket #12 is located just across the driveway from Basket #1. Scorecards/Maps should be available at the High School offic or at Sam's Pizza Barn located one block East of the Vet Clinic on the South side of the highway across from the convenient store.
Any other questions? Please ask here or contact me personally.

I received an email that told me a 9 hole course has been installed at McLaughlin Park In Valley Center. I have not checked the veracity of this claim nor can I attest to whether there are tee signs or markers. From the parking lot, it was designed to play North in a clockwise rotation. Have fun. To reach the park, take 85th St exit off I-135. Go west to Valley Center. As soon as you get into town, just past the Cop Shop, there will be McLaughlin Street. About two blocks to the parking lot.
