You are the biggest protester against holes that do this!

Sounds like a love-hate relationship.

Off on a Tangent

Post by Schoen-hopper »

After I posted about guessing / suggesting a potential layout for 54 of the 72 holes on the regular course for the Frontier, I realized that I didn't really know which course set-up I liked the most.

I went through my memory of each hole and tried to rate the order of difficulty and my own personal favorites. This was difficult to do in that I've only played some of these holes once and can't exactly remember the tree configurations in some of the fairways. Also, I think all of the holes are awesome, so it was kind of tough to decide on some which of the four I liked best.

I'm sure I got some of the difficulty ratings wrong. Maybe someone who plays the course can correct me. I was espescially unsure on holes 2, 4, 8, & 9. Did you keep any scorecards from last year Str8? Seing a scoring average on all these holes (or maybe just pro cards) from 2004 would be neat. With the event growing to more than 72 players, we would need more than 2 days to play all 72 holes again.

I rated the configs. on each hole 0, 1, 2, & 3, with 0 being easiest / lowest total grade and 54 being the potentially hardest / highest grade. (O-A = Original tees to Alternate pins.)

Alternate to original course.........33.................33
Original to alternate course.........27.................15
Alternate to alternate course......36.................17

Seems like the original-original course plays much easier while the other 3 are fairly close in difficulty. I can also see now that the original pins are my favorite to play, although not overwhelmingly so.

What is unique about Frontier Park is that there is so much variety in difficulty amongst the different possibilities for each hole. Another course with 2 tees and 2 pins might have it so that there was sharp contrast between each setting that followed a regular pattern. Here, every course mentioned above has some of the hardest holes and some of the easiest holes. The best thing about the course is that each tee/pin combination has it's own style. You can look at other courses like Rosedale that are pretty cool having 6 pins per hole, but the shots are roughly similar.

The thread continues....

Mike!

I don't belive that you ranked every hole on the entire course! You are a TOOLBOX! :D

I was able to read the first half of the post, but I couldn't force myself to read the entire thing.

Here is my rank.

Hole 5 original the easiest.
Hole 8 Alt. to Alt the hardest.

There are a bunch of hole between that fit in there someplace.

We need to keep it on the front page of the PDGA forum. I would love to see that mother have 80-100 people.

Lets get the word out, and get some new faces there.

I think that "Frank the Tank" is going to be coming from Nebraska. He may be looking for a place to crash. Can any Haystions help the Tank out?

Tank,

You have a place to crash if you need it.

Camping

Team Rodiek is planning on coming down again.
Is there anywhere around that we can pitch a tent for the night?

See if they can camp on the course.

Ellis is only 10-15 minutes away, and they have a camp ground.

Campin on the course is probably a no-no. Camp in Ellis or my backyard its only 15-20 secs. from the Ellis campground anyway........ your more than welcome Dust.

Is that a campground where main and the by-pass come together? Sunflower campground. I have always seen campers there.

Campgrounds on Vine and bypass, I always see people camping there. I don't know if there are showers though, but it is a stones throw away from the course.
