Hi everyone. I am fairly new to this site but I am in need of some technical assistance. I have already contacted str8 but need more input.

I am the Secretary of the Advanced Technology Student Organization at Fort Hays State University and we are in the process of refurbishing computers that, once complete, will be donated to Washington Elementary School for a check out program for under-priviledged families. These families don't have or cannot afford a computer of their own. We believe that if these kids don't get the exposure to the technology of today, they will be bypassed by kids that have access to this technology. We are providing the computers, basic skills instruction, educational software, and some tech support.

Now, here is the reason why I tell you all of this. The ATSO is putting on a disc golf tourney as a fundraiser so that we can continue this project each and every year with the possibility of adding more elementary schools later on. We are looking at a doubles tourney with random draw parners on str8's suggestion. We don't know how Pro/Am works so this would be helpful information. We also need to know if there are injury release forms or something like that for the players so that we can not be sued if someone gets hurt.

Damn, when I went to Washington they had the nicest computers in the school district except for the high schools.

Well, this isn't for the school itself. We are donating them to the school but they will be loaning them out to families that can't afford to buy a computer. Washington itself is a Mac based school now, as is most of the district, with Hays High being totally Mac laptops. I wish someone could give me some information on how to go about putting on this tourney. I have a few answers but not nearly enough to go forward, although we are committed to this project.

The reason I proposed the pro/am option is because when the comm club held a bring your own partner doubles tourney, the winning team dominated by 20 strokes in two rounds of play. If you partner a pro with an am, you look at evening the playing field. With the Hays course, I'd suggest a pro player status as someone who can shoot an even par 3 to an under par score, and Am status would be over par. You can let the players determine there status. You may not have to worry about any pros showing if there is a KDGA or PDGA event somewhere else that weekend. If you have say 10 pros and 10 ams you can have 10 playing cards for the pros and 10 for the ams, the matching cards become partners.

I wouldn't worry about injury release forms, but that 's up to you. Hope that answers your questions.

The information that you have given me has been helpful and mace man is feeding me info as well. We were thinking about April 23 but I noticed that The Rock is going on then and we wouldn't be able to draw anyone to town. the only open dates I can see in KDGA and PDGA is April 9th. A bit of a tight timeframe but I think we can pull it off. We are going to try to get some local sponsors for "door" prizes to help attract some people from the local area.

How would we know if we went Pro/Am that the players are being honest about their status? I mean, if two players that play in Pro status come in and decide that one of them will say they play Am and blow the rest away, is this preventable? If I understand what you are saying, they don't really get that chance, right? Their card number actually matches them up determined by the status they claim, correct?

I know I'm full of questions but I am full of other things as well. Talk to you soon.

What do you use to mark the OB with? paint, chalk?

Any of the players that would qualify for pro status would have no reason to claim am status. I don't forsee this happening.
