Some people left, or I just forgot to give them their money. If you cash in the above post and didn't get what you have coming, let me know. I think I know who, but not 100% certain.

Don't know the scores, but Crispin & Ronnie shot 9 down on red tees, tying the course record for long pins.

Lots of work done picking up trash. Fresh mow, park looks nice.

May do handicap dubs on 7/21 and switch dubs on 7/7. Won't do handicap dubs if there are any players with less than 3 rounds data or handicaps higher than 18. Might do 4 pools for switch dubs and do A-D, B-C pairings. Won't use this format if there are players with handicaps higher than 18.

Handicap doubles is where the 2 partners add their handicaps together and take 1/3 of the total. This amount is subtracted from the raw score.
Switch doubles is where the 2 partners swap lies after the drive and then complete the hole playing singles, taking the best score between the two.

6/9/11
Oak Park
Red Tees
19 players

Crazy league tonight. Serious storm clouds and lightning to the North before we even started. It looks like it will stay North, but slowly build back towards us.

As usual, everyone wanted to play in sixsomes. I was guessing we'd have about 13 dry holes before pouring rain and I was spot on. Tornado sirens blasting and we did see some rotation and lowering clouds. First we was hearing a tornado on the ground in Maize and right before we left, Ben said tornado on the ground at Kellogg and Ridge. If that was the case, I would have ran into it on the way home.

Thought we'd be the only teams to finish, but nearly every single group played in 50-60 mile gusts and driving rain. I was playing poorly until the hard wind and rain hit and finished with 3 birdies! I couldn't get all the scores as some left and everyone was high-tailing it out of there. Here is what I heard.

Ben Maass & am partner: -3-3=-6
Crispin & Joe Boller: -2-3=-5
Mike & Cali: E-3=-3
Jeff Ring & am partner: E-3=-3
Bo & Curtis: -2
Russ Trice & Brandon: +4-6=-2

3 other teams not sure on scores. I think Ben W. and J.D. told me, but I forgot. Payout is 18, 18, 9, 9, 4, 2, 2 unless some others made it to -3 net or below.

I (Bob Decker) was Ben's "Am partner" and Jerry Sherwood was Jeff Ring's "Am partner".

Those last 4 holes were really "fun". Some of the heaviest rain I've played in and I've played in some pretty heavy stuff over the years. 8) Played in heavier winds several times though.

How/when are we going to do the pay-out?

You guys are RETARDED!!! Should have called league when the sirens were going off.
What if you were all blown away?! Is that what the ACDGC insurance is for? Is death by tornado covered?
Did we not just have a fundraiser because people were devasted by those conditions?

I'd be giving the people's money back who didn't finish... They were the only sane people there.

I will hold everyones winnings and keep track of them. Next time I see you I will pay you. Payout amounts as mentioned above unless there were any more teams with -3 or below.

As far as a rain out procedure, we usually play it out, even when we probably shouldn't. It comes down to individual responsibility. What's more important, living another day or your prize money. Those who finish are eligible for payout. Of course if it starts raining hard soon after play begins and shows no sign of letting up, all players can get their money back less the ace fund and club fund. If you've thrown shots for the ace money, your dollar belongs to the ace fund. If players decide to quit before throwing the first hole, they can get their full money back. If its obvious there will be severe weather before league even begins, I will call it off. I've done this many times before. But if you come out knowing the possibility of bad weather and we end up playing, you can't expect to get your money back.

I'll say it again. When we need to get finished early, NO SIXSOMES!

Mike the only way i see around this is to asign holes. Fill out score cards with two teems or four singles like a tourney. I know it sounds like extra work but if they won't listen then thats what may have to happen. Also i think score cards are a good idea any how . keeps every one more honest too, not that its a problem though right?

Any time I am running league and the tornado sirens sound, I will call league off or pospone it until the danger has past. You guys continuing to play with the the lightening and storm last night was just ridiculous. (not to mention the Tornado sirens). I have some other ideas about returning the money or calling it completed round when storms come up after we start. I will propose those ideas at the next ACDGC meeting.

Legitimate points for sure. But it sure was fun! Ok, I'm an idiot, but at least I'm not the only one. Always easier to make these calls from home. A better standard has to be set where there really isn't a well defined one now. I try to be as fair as possible with peoples league money, so I tend to shy away from last second decision like this. Yeah, it was dangerous to play last night. But we so often have situations where it would be tough to call. When it's a 100 degrees out do we cancel league to prevent the possibility that someone would have a heat stroke? When it's freezing, should we cancel league to prevent someone from getting exposure? Ok, so we don't. What about rain? Do we cancel when we see lightning? There was lightning two full hours before the rain last night. When you have some people with a finished round and some with a couple holes left, what do you do? Am I supposed to carry an air horn with me? Or run all over the course to tell people to stop playing immediately? Or tell my own group that official play stops at 7:44pm so any shots played after that are unofficial for the other groups? Yeah, I am stretching it a little. All I'm saying is that in some situations, you have to leave the responsibility to the player. This generation has tried to safe-proof and idiot-proof anything and everything, especially the public schools, and will have nothing to show for it except ignorant and unskilled people, empty bank accounts, and defecits to other (smarter?) countries. I better stop before I get everybody mad. :P Tornado sirens! Now there is a definitive measure, though sometimes you will hear them and get neither lightning, nor rain, nor tornado. We could say something like..... If all groups had at least 9 holes played, play could be stopped with scores relative to par standing. If there was less than 9 holes played, we could do a $3.50 or $4 refund. To be fair, all groups would have to stop play at the first sound of a siren.

Speaking of dangerous: Tornadoes and lightning aren't the only thing that can kill you. A friend of mine lives in Mt. Hope. He took some pictures of baseball sized hail that came down last night. Destroyed everyone's roofs, fences, cars.... Casey won't have to travel far for work this time!

Can you imagine being outside when that stuff started beating the hell out of everything? Rock hard ice balls coming down at 200mph.

No, I can't imagine!!!! You could've gotten hit in the head!!! & DIED

If you're going to run league- it IS YOUR responsibility to get the players out of unsafe conditions! Lightning included!!! It's your call, Mike- if the players chose not to listen, it's a different story. If you had called league & everyone saw your group headed to safety, I think they'd have gotten the hint... Of course, maybe not since they were too dumb to listen to the blaring sirens. I really can't believe there's any argument here, but if ya'll want to be ignorant, that's on you & the ACDGC.

I, for 1, would not have enjoyed going to your funeral

I think you are right. Not everyone enjoys playing in dangerous conditions, so those smart folks concerned for their own safety should have the right of way.

The only thing I am saying is: How far do you take this? When the sirens are blaring, maybe that should be an easy call. But am I going to get called out on every rain storm? A lot of times the conditions are really crappy and I'll show up to run league, drop the prize money off, and leave. I don't stick around to referee between the players and the storm. I don't like the conditions, so I don't play. And every player makes that decision.
