i'm a local who likes oak the best, just wondering about the out of town opinions.

Which one played the hardest? I have my Opinion

Herman is my favorite. Usually there is a wind coming off the river that really messes with you. Oak is a fun course too! Herman has always been tougher for me. Maybe that's why I like it better, I am still trying to beat it!

I think that Oak plays tougher, because of the sidewalks and river. You have to have a much more developed game to play well there.

I would hate to be left handed on either of the 2. I cannot think of a single hole that is easier for a lefty then a righty. #16 at Oak maybe. The other 35 are either equal or much easier for right handed players.

Herman Playes longer, but Smitty right Oak playes tougher by far.. Its much less open course with little room for error. The O.B. on the back is very unforgiving Many low ceiling shots, and tunnel shots out of the woods. Plus no police station Herman is a better course for tournaments, especially with everything long..( The restrooms, club house, parking, and signs) Oak is more of the choice for fun recreation rounds, and league. Its is a much more manicured, beautiful, and easier to walk.. (No sand or stickers) I love both courses, but watching Oak grow from a pitch and putt to the great course it is now has won me over. A few months ago when I came to visit, I didn't even play Herman.. I played Oak and Colwich. If that tells ya anything.

Oak has too much OB,it is tougher because of it.

Ive always preferred HH but oak is much tougher. I play oak all the time cuz its close and thats where the action is but its nice to have two very great courses. I would say I like both equally but prefer oak.

This was the first time I got to play these courses and I enjoyed both of them. If I had to pick a favorite of the two I would pick Oak.

I think with all the pins long, and the tougher winds at Herman, it plays very nearly as tough as Oak. Easier for pros, but maybe tougher for ams.

With the new pins, new poles for alternates, irrigation greening everything up, chips and dirt around the pads and pins, plan for tall grass along the river, no more stickers, etc. Herman Hill is still not quite as scenic as Oak, but the design is better for more varied golf shots.

I agree that Oak has a great majority of holes that strongly favor righty. At Herman though, holes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 18 all somewhat favor lefty. Some of the other holes are neutral and a few favor righty. Depends on which pads/pins a little, but Herman is not too unfair for leftys anymore.

Oak needs Tee signs, Pin placements and that's about it. Weren't we supposed to had Tee sign funds for Oak when we put the back nine in, what happened to those funds?

I've been pushing for the tee signs at nearly every meeting. Bill has priced several different options. The best option seems to be presenting the city with a list of needed course improvements and needed funding for these so that we can get on the budget. Only reason I don't go around talking about this is that I don't want people to get their hopes up. Anything the city gives us is a gift and should be considered as such. Yes the club does set aside money for course improvement, but we want to preserve/spend what funds we have the best we can.

Suggestions are welcome. There may be only certain options we can pursue, especially if using the cities funding. Another reason I don't like to share everything discussed in meetings is that progress with the city is very slow most of the time. If this is kept in mind, it is a lot easier for us to do our best without the pressure of high expectations.

Another thing on Oak... The city agreed to dump woodchips for us again if we need them. The chips we threw down helped out a lot. I think more will only make things better yet. If we get a lot of rain and again are having trouble with mud / erosion, let's assemble a small crew to spread the chips and have some more delivered.

Mike I thought we had the Money to put the tee signs in at Oak when we bought our other 9 baskets and sleeves for HH, I know those baskets and sleeves didn't cost $5,000. My understanding was we were supposed to get Tee signs for Oak with whatever was left over, what happened to those funds. I think we were suppose to get a few tee signs for HH too, which I think we did do that,I think they all have tee signs n-eways.

N-eways I'm not going to be hammering on you about this, just wondering what the deal was, if you happen too know the answers.

I'm all up for spreading chips, we just need to get them dumped in a few designated areas so it would be easier to move around, plus who knows if well have truck help, if not maybe we can get them to dump in the bigger areas like Hole's 1, 5, 7, 11&12 may just get washed away, 18.

Like I said, we do have money to spend on course improvements. We spent some of it recently on those "sleeve savers" at Herman Hill. Better than spend everything we have on signs, it would be better to get on the city's budget. They also have to approve anything we want to put in at Oak Park.

As far as the chips go, they won't be dumping at several locations again. If we could have got someone to help when they were dumping at the individual tee sites, they probably would have had enough to dump at the other sites, but they would have needed to be shown where (my description wasn't good enough). Anyway.... I don't plan on asking again for a while, but when we have a truck and a few people willing to do the shoveling/ spreading, we can get another load dumped.

Right now the big problem with getting Tee Signs in at Oak is that the city and the Riverside Citizen's Association will not approve anything that may "clutter up" the park and especially not the metal signs like we have in Herman Hill. We even designed some nice looking metal (powder coated) benches with signs on them and couldn't get that approved.

We haven't given up and, as Mike said, we're doing our best to get Tee Signs into Oak. Hopefully, we can come up with something that we can get approval for that is not too expensive or that we can get city funding for.
