I spent about an hour today looking over proposed placements on 3 and 9 today. We'll probably put some baskets out tomorrow around 3:30 after club at Oak. Only going to do this for an hour as Bill has to leave.

I looked at the proposed short placement for 3. To the left of the leaning cottonwood, which is short of the existing short pin by about 40 feet.

From the long pad, it would take a skilled anyhyzer or flick in order not to go too long. Everyone would play straight at the hole however, because if you hit one of the two guarding trees, they are likely to kick you towards the basket.

From the short pad, the hole seems like just a short ace run. Remember that I haven't seen the exact proposed location, but am guessing from given information. It would seem better to leave the short basket alone no matter what action is taken.

Looking at moving 3 long's pin to the right would be a good hole. Long tunnel shot from the short tee. It's not quite too encroaching on 4's long tee. There is the possibility we would see many more shots going into dangerous traffic on Pawnee, but I'm not sure if people would try to cheat the hole by playing a hyzer out in the street. If so, this would be bad. Problems I see with this other than losing the good pin location that we are using presently, is that it wouldn't be that far from the pin that we are using presently, which would be in play for hole 9 long. You would always have players putting close to each other or towards one another on different holes, which would be bad. If the baskets were set up all long or odd-long this would be a problem, espescially for tourney play.

I looked at a different proposal. There is a good location for a short hole on 9. If we used it, we wouldn't have to change any of 3, but current short 9 would become long 9. The location is 6 foot long of and 2 foot to the right of the cool looking "uprights" tree to the right and short of the current #9 pin by about 60 feet.

From the long tee there are several options. Low skip hyzer, medium heighth hzyer, or a higher hyzer. The trees to the right of the pin and in front of the pin would be obstacles. There is also a lefty (or flick) route that offers about equal chances.

From the short tee, there is also a lefty route, a straight route, and a route with a slight hzyer. The thing about this hole that makes it tricky is that you don't want to go 30' past the hole and end up the the electrical box area, which would be OB as well as all the concrete past this that surrounds the Water Museum. This small area 30' past the pin that would be OB is very well defined by brick on the sides and a strip on the front. The trees so close to the pin can make for difficult putting on this placement as well.

Another thing cool about the hole is that you could, just for fun, use the old tee pad. Here the lefty route is even more tempting, but the hyzer gap is very nostalgic of old hole #8, which used to be my favorite hole at Herman Hill. The proposed pin is between where the two old placements were.

Overall, even though this hole would be the shortest on the course, it wouldn't be much easier than the other placement on this hole. The real problematic hole at Herman Hill is #18 short. The last tree that protects the basket is dead and will come out sooner or later. The short tee will be wide open and the long tee will give up the anhyzer, which will eliminate many of the rolls.

A new slightly longer setting has been agreed upon with hole #7. We were thinking of putting the pin 25' past its current setting on the other side of the trees. Though this would be interesting, it is only about 25' from the OB road, which is a little too close. Over next to the south line of trees 12 foot out and 12 foot from the back tree would be a challenging straight shot that gives a player trouble if his upshots fades too much.

If we are going to get 6 new pins from the city, use 2 pins for replacements to damaged pins (#6 and #14), and use 2 for new holes (#7 and #3 or #9), that would leave 2 extra pins to use as we please.

I would suggest we use these as super-long placements for #6 and #7. We wouldn't consider these a part of our regular lineup (all long set-up would use the regular long setting), but these would be extreemly challenging par 4's from short tees and par 5's from the long tees. We need more holes like these as this is where disc golf is headed.

Again we wouldn't need to leave them set-up except for over a weekend or for a special event. There has been talk of putting wooden stakes in the pin placements that aren't being currently used, which would work out perfect for using these rarely played holes as "pole" targets. That way on any given hole, the pros could play to long baskets and the ams could play to the shorts at the same time.

We would have our 36 pins already set-up and these 2 holes would make great 3 setting holes. In fact, #7 super long could double as a super long #13, just as #3 could double as a long #9 as it does currently, if we just wanted to play the course as long as possible for a special event. If you just look at the place where #6 super-long would go, you would agree that the hole is bad to the bone. #7 super-long would be very tough, not becuase of the length, but because of the angle of approach, the wind direction, and the road.

Come out tomorrow with any useful feedback. If you have a basket, bring it. After we have 36 permanent pins, I plan on doing a spreadsheet scoring average analysis that would establish average hole scores, World Class Par for each of 16 different regular course configurations, and local player ratings (don't need PDGA membership). Hope to see you there.

What, no comment on my over-long post?

Well, we got'r done. Marcus Anderson got the tee signs fixed on holes 10 and 18. He also replaced 15 long's sleeve, which got hit by a mower. I'll mention the idea of getting posts in on pins that aren't being used. This will be good not only for playing alternate baskets simultaneously, but to flag city people not to mow the sleeves.

Me and Bill met today and he agreed that the placement I had in mind for 9 short will make a decent hole. I'd like to elaborate, but I think I already did in the previous post. The city is making the new pins and should have them done soon.

What, the city is making the sleeves??? Why the heck don't we have 3 or 4 placements all over that mother f'r. It would be cheaper for them to do it in bulk instead of 1 or 2 at a time.

Also, why don't we have the city convert the Oak park baskets into movable baskets with sleeves?

I know the club has loot, it's just a big secret how much. What happened to that $5000 we spent with the city and the new tee signs we were promised?

One last thing, next time you guys decide to have a meeting, announce it. It seems like only the "elected" officers know and attend these meetings. I've never heard a single announcement, seen a sign or information posted of a meeting, or anything. When can we eliminate this dictatorship and make it a true democracy?

Vote for IQBAL!

I know you don't really want to work on a board, Iq. If you do have some good ideas of how some other people could do some work for you, bring them to a board meeting. Then you can see what the board does for the club.

I'd have to agree with IQ about these meetings. I have never heard anything about them. We do have this forum that dates can be posted on.
Can anyone attend or just the ACDGC? I honestly think that all DG'rs of all
levels of play should be able to voice there opinion on what needs to change on the course. Our money and our dedication to the sport is what
keeps the ACDGC going strong. Or could it be that the club doesn't announce these meeting so they don't have to deal with all the opinions?
I know I'd like to be able to attend these meeting and give my honest opinion and hear everyone else's opinions.

Don't think this is an attack,it's not. I have put my extra time into helping the club on work days, when I'm available. I would just like to see a post
from the club inviting all the players who have done the same to come to
the meetings, it would be respectful to those players.

It shouldn't be one sided..........EVER.

Point taken Scooba, but...

These meetings have been announced and interest in attending has been next to nothing. Yes, anyone can attend. With a whole lot of people, there has to be some order involved though. I've been personally asking fellow disc golfers before meetings if there is anything they would like discussed at these meetings. Usually I don't get a response.

Fact is, people like to believe that the board consists of conspirators that aren't interested in the wishes of the club members. This is far from fact, however. The board consists of disc golfers just like yourself. If you talk to these people instead of alienating them as "those people in control who don't care about us" you might get someone to see your point of view. Maybe an idea you have is worth everyone pursuing. Problem is that sometimes one person thinks that everyone else will want things their way. When this isn't the case, they get an attitude again and want nothing to do with helping out the local disc golf scene.

I happen not to know this month when the meeting is, but I will find out soon. I will post it when I do.
