We did show up and drug Lizard back to the course to finish her up. Big thanks to Bo again, Lizard, and Andy for slingin' chips once again.
Results from Oak Park Workday #5:
Everything is pretty much done, except we left some stuff close to the small pile of woodchips we have left. We basically went over the whole course and did the greens that weren't done and went lightly over all the teepads. Going over that dirt with the grass seed might have insured that the grass will not be coming up. It was looking like both the seed and the dirt would wash away if we didn't chip it. We are very lucky we got the dirt down before the rain and that we got the chips down before there was heavy traffic on the course.
There is still enough chips for probably a couple of truckloads. We need chips on 6's short teepad, but you will need to take a wheelbarrow down to it (we hand carried the dirt we took down there). I have Bill's wheel barrow in the clubhouse, but if someone would like to use it, they will have to arrange transportation from and back to the clubhouse. Hole 1's long tee and the practice basket are also close by and could use some more. After whatever rain we get in the next 2-3 days you see areas that could use some chips, have at it. We should try to get rid of this pile. The path to 2's long tee, 3's long tee, and between holes 4 & 5 could use some. We didn't do 11's long tee. 2's green and 4's green could get more.
I need someone else to step up to take care of this. That is at least work night #6 for me (I painted the mando's and did other stuff at Herman last night). I still want to tape tbe mando trees at both parks, string the OB riverbank at Herman Hill, and paint circles at both parks. It would help out if someone could get the string and nails from me and take care of the OB at Herman while I paint the circles. I plan on getting some supplies for this.

I don't know how you ask people to stay off the course when they need to practice for the tourney. We've got a rediculous amount of rain and I'm afraid people are probably making a mess of all our work the last week.
We probably need to work before and after league on Thursday to touch up the needed areas on the course. Hopefully it will be dry enough to get a truck on the course by then. If anyone has a wheelbarrow for those close locations (1 long tee, 6 short tee, practice basket), please do whatever you can.

Also local weather forcast on tonights news was calling for more rain tonight up to 2 inches with flash flood warnings, more rain tuesday and wendsday. clear a couple days but then rain again next weekend during the DOO DAH. so nomatter what we do Its not going to help. If we had gravil or crushed concrete at the ends of the tepads instead of dirt and chips it would stay firm and not wash away or wear down like it does every year. let look into it. I bet i can get it donated for free if the club can get the city to ok it.

Gravel is a good idea, but the city won't go for it.
Everything we do will help. If we get people motivated to work on these tees more often, it will make a difference. The dirt was a good thing we haven't got the city to help us with before, but with something like 10 inches of rain, it didn't help as much as it would have.
Forecast I saw (tonight) had things clearing up after tomorrow with a 10% chance of rain over the weekend. Hard saying though.

Thanks for everyones help tonight. Course work is done. That work we did on those pads made a HUGE difference. All that rain didn't damage the work we did. The rain did flood a couple of our holes. 11 and 15. We threw the rest of the chips down on 11's green and a little on 2 long. Scraped that pad and 18's. Mandos were taped and flaged. Tees were touched up. Trash picked up.
As the water recedes, 11's fairway may have a little casual water. 15 may be more of a problem. The green isn't in the water, but much of the fairway is. It will be difficult to say what is casual and what is not. If it doesn't go down, none of it will be casual.

Re: Oak Park
We are wanting to get a head start on keeping Oak Park in shape this year. With the insane traffic levels and spring rains, we will have erosion problems soon. I'd like to get a load of chips delevered that we can use around the pins and mostly for the wooded tees & trails. When we rechip the park before the Doo Dah it won't be nearly as much work. Josh Hull is working with the Parks Supervisor on getting some stone or possibly some buried materials that will help with growing grass. Probably just a few tees for a trial bases.
I'm wanting to find out if there is motivation out there to help with this. Anyone with a truck available to move chips & stone? I don't want to have these delevered until we schedule a work day/ evening. 6-7 people and 2 trucks would be great. You think a Saturday after club at HH? Or a Sunday after club at Oak? Not much time on weekday evenings until March.

Re: Oak Park
Mike, Ive been thinking about raking the east side of hole 18 at Herman ever since I buried my disc in the sand that one day at league. I don't mind putting in the work and buying the bags if you guys can find a way to get the bags hauled off. Let me know what you think.

Re: Oak Park
You mean picking up the trash that accumulates along the fence? That is a good idea. If the trash bags were left near the cart they would be picked up.
Also at HH, I'm asking the Parks Dept to clean up some low limbs on 11 & 18.

Re: Oak Park
So does anyone have an idea of when would be a good work day for Oak Park? Talking about doing dirt work next to some tees and spreading some chips mainly along wooded pins/tees/trails. Need pickups and shovels.
Maybe a Sunday after league? Maybe a weekend after time change? Weekday after time change? When some people volunteer, we'll get materials to make this happen.
