Fire at Oak Park

Post by Schoen-hopper »

Last night, someone burnt our only trash cart to the ground. They ripped off the league documents I posted ont the bulletin and burned them.

During the round, by #5's tee pad, a member noticed a fire had been started in an old fallen tree. Luckily it hadn't caught the whole forest on fire, but it was still smoldering. I called the fire department after we finished and they came and put it out. They'll be doing an arson investigation.

This park has become a cess pool for hoodlums. People are intentionally and blatantly leaving trash on the course. Usually beer cans & bottles (some were found at the fire location in the woods).

Things are looking really bad for disc golfers at Oak Park. I know the people who view this are probably the ones picking up the trash in the park. Thank you for the help. Please do whatever you can to inform people about how hard we work to keep the course looking good. Something needs to change and perhaps that would be more of a police presence. I'm open to suggestions.

Well I have a suggestion that worked in indiana when they had a problem with a bad bad park problem of discers that didnt go to leagues but really abused the course. They were drugging and drinking , fighting , and tearing up crap. The league decided to pull up all the baskets for one year . it gave the park time to rejuvinate and also it gave the trouble makers a year to find new places to go . when they put the baskets back in the ground they didn't have the problem. They did still set up the course for league nights and tourneys . just no more causual play for the year.

I can see how that could possibly be beneficial, but the baskets at Oak are not removable.

And I'm hoping this won't have negative consequences for those of us who try our best to keep the park nice.

If you ever pull the baskets at Oak Park you are going to lose the course. That would be the dumbest thing you could ever do. The bird watchers already hate you. I am sure the runners and walkers are not to excited to see you either.

Just tell Loyd to go play at Herman Hill for a while.

I just said that because Loyd lit a fire last year at the Tick Ranch. It was only a few weeks after the big fire and Bill and Jeff were a little worried about more fires.
