Gateway

Post by superq »

The redbud thread didnt seem appropriate to talk about the gateway stuff so I will do it here.

I got on with Gateway as a sponsored player (not a team member yet) I have been throwing the plastic for about a week now, I went out to St. Louis two weeks ago and met Dave and checked out the shop and the course at souix pass.

I will give a brief description of what I have been throwing:

Element X - I have been throwing the E plastic and the disc is very dependable stable to overstable midrange with good glide, it is replacing my stable buzz and z wasp.

Element - I have been throwing this in E also it is a stable to understable midrange and it has insane amounts of glide, It is replacing my straight buzz and my comet, the disc goes a lot longer than I expect it to so control is still an issue, the disc is really predictable for line though thrown flat it goes straight, It will hold a gentle hyzer, or thrown with an anny it will hold all the way.

Blaze- I have been throwing a 174 E blaze and it is probally the most dependable driver in the bag right now, overstable driver I throw it for about anything 370 and in, wind does not affect it much, thrown high with an S it flies like you would expect or low with a straight or hyzer release it is great too.

Illusion - This is the LONG RANGER I have one in the bag 172 in E and it is a bomber for sure, very simular to all the other extra long drivers out there wide wing thin flight plate, it will hold hyzer or can be thrown for really long hyzer flips.

Spirit - I have a 172 nike plastic spirit I like it for shots simular to the Illusion but when there is more wind, the spirit is more overstable than the Illusion, and I can not get mine to hyzer flip yet, the plastic is way durable so this may be a driver that I have to anny for big D.

Speed Demon - I have a 174 E that I have been using, this disc is extremely overstable and it has a great glide, I was throwing it the other day into 30+ headwind and it holds the same line as when there was no wind. Great for skip shots headwind and spike hyzers.

Wizzard - Of course I have several in various plastics and stiffnes the one I have been putting with is a soft in glow plastic, the grip is top shelf, the putter is slightly overstable out of the box. As they wear in they fly super straight. I have been putting and using Wizzard for 75-150 upshots

Hybrid - I have a 173 S hybrid, have not thrown this one a lot, it seems fairly stable the disc does have some high speed turn but it finishes overstable, it is a good feeling plastic

Sabre- E 173 I have not thrown this as much either I am told that it is slightly understable, in the premium plastic I found it to be pretty stable with High speed turn and not really an overstable finish but it did not hold the turn the entire flight.

Overall I can not feel a lot of difference in the plastic, the E plastic feels like a cross between the innova Pro and the ESP plastic, the big difference I saw was in the S plastic, compared to the DX or D plastic I think Gateways S is quite a bit better feeling.

If anyone is interested in picking up some of the plastic send me a PM or come out the the Cap city I will have some stuff there.

speed demon - between a pred and a flick with more glide than either

element between a roc and a buzz but with a lot more glide than either

element X - a little less stable than a wasp

blaze - a little more stable than an eagle or a t bird.

illusion - like a wraith or a surge probally the surge is closer than the wraith

spirit- not sure how to compare this one maybe like a beefy crush or a tuned pred.

Hybrid - like a champion stingray

Maybe something like that.

Dave is really a cool guy, he does not require any of his sonsored players or team members to throw only his plastic, I am testing out most of his line right now, if there are holes that I can not fill with Gateway I may slip something extra in, right now there is a crush pred buzz and surge in the bag but I have not had to use them, I will post a list for sale when and if I decide what I can get rid of.

most of the stuff I grabbed is E plastic, It is more durable and feels the best to me, I have a few H illusions but have not thrown them yet, It will take some time to learn all the plastic, I did shoot the hot round (46) last week at league my seccond round throwing the new stuff. Now that Crestview is all gold, 56 will be good with me.

I have a couple of E & S Illusions, They do bomb, but fly alot different because the S is stiff and super flat, and the E is very pop-top and domey, I'll bring one of each to league Wed. if you want them.

Congrats Q, I hope it all works out for you.

I know Grant tried it for about 5 months last summer, then got pissed 1 day and gave it up. He could throw rollers for miles with the Illusion.

What ever the clear disc is that George throws, and the Dyed one Justin uses, you need. They are $$ with them.

It might be the Sabre? You would have to ask George. His is marked 160 something.

Now don't be like the rest of those idiots on the PDGA board and try to tell us how good Gateway is on every thread.

Does this help?

What I was trying to ask was....

"Is simular similar to similar?"

Super Q, you know what to do.
