I have been informed that the Midwest Championships are in the early planning stage. It is going to roughly be based on the Southern Nationals with a few changes.
-Basically you have to qualify to play.
-The payout should be A-tier quality or better.
It is funded by the players. TD's can choose to make their event a qualifier. They would then send $2/person to the Midwest Championships Director. This money from all the events would then be put towards the payout at the Championships.
Southern Nationals has a huge following and a great reputation for being Awesome.
"Midwest States" would include: Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, S. Dakota, ???? there may have been more, if I didn't delete the info I could tell you.
The questions that were asked of me:
1-How far would you travel to play the championships?
2-How many of tourneys in your state would want to be qualifiers?

Re: Midwest Championships??
Questions I would have:
What is the Total amount of competitors that would be allowed? Would it always be held in the same spot? I assume anyone could qualify, no matter where from, correct? I would think that the qualifier tournaments would only be from those midwest states too?
Answers for questions asked of you:
I would think a couple states away wouldn't be too far to travel, but Kansas being in the middle of the US makes it close to lots of stuff.
I think the number of qualifying tournaments depends of the number of competitors desired.
These are the midwest states according to wikipedia:

Re: Midwest Championships??
What time of the year would this be played? Would this event be PDGA sanctioned(even if the qualifiers are not). How much would the "pay-in"to the final be /event. Sounds cool, I just hope it fits in an ever tighter calender of events without stepping on any of the better tourneys.

I am sure it would be late summer/early fall. The hope is to get a USDGC qualifier.
At least B-tier is what the e-mail said.

Re: Midwest Championships??
What about just including states around Kansas? Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma? I would include Arkansas, but it doesn't look like they have many courses right now. You could always add states later on.

Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Illinois.
Alternate the tournament between KC and St. Louis, 2 awesome disc golf towns.
