Are you still looking for 10 people to be your caddy? Each holding one disc. I may be able to carry a disc tomorrow.

My fault, Corey. Saw Bruce had you by 1 but failed to update your score.

Here's a few early results...

Jeff Vest had a great morning and with a good afternoon round could extend his tourney.

Likely no winners in the Masters division but several contestants earned themselves an 8am tee time in the Semis:
Danny Craig will start 10 back of the leader in 9th. Gary Harvey had a good Friday and finds himself just one back of Danny. Adam Mosher is sitting in 17th ahead of Bonjour and Zink who also made the cut.

Sara Kmetz finished her gruelling week strong by batting above her rating over her last two rounds.

In the GrandMasters Division, Tom Butler shook off his mid-week slump and charged back into sole possession of 3rd. 2 back of 2nd and 7 behind the leader, He's got a round and a half to claim the title. Klein-Mo slipped in the 5th but rallied in the 6th round and finds himself in 7th place heading to the weekend. Like the Masters, the G-Masters tackle Peter Pan @ 8 tomorrow.

Twitch has a chance to get under par for the week in his final round today. Though even with 2 1/2 rounds left, it's a tough ask to catch the leaders. Through 5 rounds, the top 4 contenders in his division have all thrown a 1000 rated round. The leader is averaging 980 golf.

Glad Y'all are tuning in.

Late results:

2013 came to an end for a bunch of folks tonight. Hope Y'all had a blast and I hope you'll join me watching the folks lucky enough to play tomorrow.

Advanced division looks out of reach for our homies. Bruce is tied for 14th with Fluty 1 stroke back. By the numbers, these guys played really well (Fluty is averaging almost 15 points above his rating this week--Bruce more than 50!) but there were a bunch of folks in their division of 216 player who shot AMAZING. Snodgrass and Vogel had good days and moved up the ranks shooting well over their average for the week. Julian Groh, Peter Bures and Steve Thimmesch all played well enough to earn spot in the Semis.

But the best news of the day came from the B pool... Derek Krause threw a 1000 rated round though it wasn't enough to earn bonus golf. Not to be outdone, 2K dropped the other K and leap-frogged into the A pool! thus securing a spot in the Semis. Well done, Kev!

And Holy HyzerNits! The story of the week so far: Justin Morris shot the round of his life at Peter Pan (I think). His 48 rated at 1066!!!!!!!! He catapulted from the middle of the B-pool yesterday to one stroke clear of the cut-off for the Semis. Justin, I wanna hear the story. Guys, his PDGA rating is 919. Unreal. Enjoy your bonus golf, sir.

The Twitcher moved up a spot to 6th and gets to play a round tomorrow. He's got a bunch of stokes ahead and behind so he'd better just enjoy the morning.

I'm rolling up to E-town bright and early. Hope some of you do to. Pretty rad that such a small town is hosting such a huge event. Trophy only--these guys are playing for pride and joy. Catch you there.

No fairy tale endings for our Kansas brethren.

Sounds like Twitcher made a great push and wound up -2 strokes out of a playoff for the 4th spot in the finals. Still good shooting and some valuable experience for a 16 year old mind.

Fluty finished 2 strokes back of his personal goal of a top 10 finish which would have earned him a trophy.

Sara finished strong and won her card twice this week.

Tom Butler couldn't fully recover from one tough day but he rallied for a spot in the finals and that is pretty awesome. Real live scoreboard with your name neatly printed on it, a gallery, cameras, manicured landscape and a microphone announcing who you are and where you are from before you tee off. Rad.

From everything I saw and heard, whoever hosts Worlds next has some big shoes to fill. I heard nothing but positives from players, spectators, curious onlookers, and PDGA reps. Rusco and Dynamic Discs had all hands on deck: top pros, local pros, employees, friends, and awesome volunteers. Everything was taken care of quickly and accurately. I hope someone posts a list of the entire team--it must be huge. I had the privilege of seeing Smitty, Bill Paulson, Chris Eads, Boebo and Miranda along with 3 or 4 others and that was just at one course. They quickly deciphered cards to determine and organize the necessary playoffs to determine who made the finals. But it was the spirit with which they worked, a camaraderie with and respect for the players which was most heartening. Pretty cool to see the Ams get to be the star of the show for a change.

Wild Speculation ahead....

The buzz is that the PDGA reps enjoyed their time in Emporia. Often they are overworked and understaffed at World's events because they are asked to come in and help organize an event using a hodgepodge of local club members and volunteers with no real structure. Consequently they don't get to play the courses or go out to dinner because they are scrambling to keep everything running. I think two factors account for the PDGA smiles this week:
1) Unlike a large city with multiple and sometimes fractured club systems, Emporia has Rusco and his DD Team, employees, and friends who, for pay or for fun, run tournaments. DD has the manpower and the organization to get big Tournes done.
2) In part because Emporia is smaller than other host cities and in part because of the great working relationship Rusco has fostered with the City the ball golf courses, Emporia rolls out the red carpet. 500 players (not counting staff/friends/family/spectators) shopping, eating, and staying for a week is a big deal to a town that size. And the amount of revenue the Country Club generates from food/drink/greens fees etc is very important to them.

I guess what I'm saying is that it is good business. DD is particularly good at running big tourneys because that is their business. And a smaller town is willing to work with Rusco to get more events like this to Emporia because for them it is good business.

Maybe it's just the afterglow, but I know I'm not alone in thinking this: Emporia might be a couple courses short of being a candidate for Pro Worlds. I'm hoping we see one of those courses in the next year or two.

Along the vein of course installation, at the Olpe Down Home Days tournament this morning, there was talk that groundwork is being laid for the installation of 18 holes at the Olpe City Lake. not certain if that would be close enough to Emporia or not, but did think it was cool.

off topic a bit, I am looking forward to heading up Reading way and throwing their brand new 9 holer!

pretty sure ten miles would be close enough. most cities that host a big tourney have as much as 45 minute drives between courses. the issue would be caliber of course. can a world class caliber course be designed there? i dont recall ever being as the lake but it would require multiple obstacle challenges. that area is mostly flat and open.
