Re: Lawrence Kansas Disc Golf - Online Forum
Sweet! Glad to see that Lawrence got it's own spot on the Forum. There weren't any disc golf courses in Lawrence when I left to go to college....Too bad I could have discovered this fantastic sport 18 years sooner....
Throw some D's on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any locals could answer this at River front a couple of signs are missing I thought the first nine you trow to the baskets on the right then the second round you throw baskets on the left? I played there Saturday afternoon and got a little turned around . Any help?

I've only been there once a month or so ago and that sounds correct (edit: looking on the map that's not how it's laid out, I suppose you could play it that way though). We were constantly referencing a picture we took of the map at the front of the course. The course had been underwater recently though and the mosquitos were so bad we could only play 9 holes. Not a bad course though.CHAS. wrote:Any locals could answer this at River front a couple of signs are missing I thought the first nine you trow to the baskets on the right then the second round you throw baskets on the left? Yes, they have a small mosquito problem there. I've dealt with mosquitos before, but there were so many there that you couldn't concentrate on our game. They'd swarm around when you stopped walking and one of them would land on your face within 10 seconds.
I honestly started to joke about that park having the most mosquitos per square acre in the entire country. We decided to leave before one of us got killed but a bug! I don't plan to go back there until after the first frost kills them off for the season.
Regarding the course, I can't wait to go back and give it a second chance. It will be fun to tackle all of those technical tosses required, without all the tag along pests.

Come to Manhattan. Play our courses.

Mosquitos and ticks and any number of other bugs do make that pretty cool course nearly unplayable except during the winter. Worse than the blood suckers is that damn fire-weed(???)...I'm not sure what kind of plant it is but it grows all over the stinking place and acts exactly like a jelly fish when ever it contacts your flesh. Then there is the creepiest part of that course. It is a notorious "cruise" spot for any number of creepy men. I am completely baffled by this concept in Lawrence of all places. Can't they just go to Club "Neon" on Thursdays or something. Lawrence is so open to that lifestyle, so that creepy crap is frustrating. Come on guys, how many times have you played that course and saw like 12 dudes hunched down in cars break their necks to stare at you and your buddies when you all pile out of your hooptie to throw a round. And DON"T tell me they are there for the dog park. One last complaint about that course, that is one muddy motha anytime we get any rain and takes forever to dry up. Overall, it is a pretty cool course with a good layout but due to all the other crap I hate to play there. I'd much rather play Centennial Park any day.

BTW that pick of the giant mosquito is effin Hilarious.

Stinging Nettles is the evil fireweed.
I played my first round DURING mosquito season this last Wednesday. Yup, it turned into my worst DGing experience ever. There were mosquitoes nearly the size of a horsefly...was totally unable to concentrate, even with DEET.
After 3 hard freezes I'll return...as this really is a great and fun lil course ~ Dec-Mar ONLY.
