Global Disc Golf event

Post by DUH »

I check the link, but wanted to make sure...

There's nothing in Kansas to support this deal, is there?
I think it's a great idea & wish I could participate.

This is one of those things where whether it eventually works or not, the proof will be in the pudding. Some people were concerned that flaws in the ratings system would favor certain courses in the event over others. I haven't really looked at the results in depth yet, but they looked encouraging.

There were a couple of things about the Global event that were kind of a sticking point with a lot of local TD's. One was that the event had to be a two-day, three round event, with each round being on the same layout. This kind of constrained things if the TD wanted to do something else. I know DD had that weekend last year, but they ran two separate one-day tournaments (which will be this coming weekend this year).

The other was the issue of how the payout, specifically the Am payout would be handled. Initially an outfit in Georgia that handles the PDGA membership fulfillment was going to do it, but TD's weren't all that enthused to be taking in money and doing all the work some other far off party to benefit. There was also the issue of shipping the payout prizes, which would deplete money from the payout. They then decided to go trophy only, give a player's pack and leave the post-event Am payout local. To me, that's the smartest formula.

Hopefully, the feedback from the TD's that did it this year will be good, and next year there will be more participants.
