Going to KC

The wife and I will be spending 4 days in KC during the up coming holiday. Which disc golf course do you think is a must play course?
Rosedale
Rosedale down under
Wyco
Swoop

I played swoop and really liked the change of elivation you dont get to much of out here. I also noticed that its not even listed in the KDGA directory or is it listed in another town thats a suburb of KC?

I would like to here what you guys that have played out there think. I might get to play them all but if not i wanna hit the best first. But the weekend is going to be also about spending some time enjoying the arts and getting some culture with the wife. we will be going to a show , museums, rose gardens, and art galleries. Oh and also about eating some KC BBQ and other good food.

If you like hills and woods and aren't out to play the longest courses, you may most enjoy same ones I do.

Water Works in North Kansas City, MO. Can't hardly go to KC without playing here. I've never played a unenjoyable round at this place.

Young Park in Blue Springs, MO. This course is only a year or two old. Manicured perfectly and lots of woods. Fantastic course by John Theiss.

Rosedale Down Under. Don't play if its wet out, the terrain is steep and dangerous when muddy. Insane mix of dense trees and elevation changes. Doesn't play at all like a typical Kansas course. This course is much more fun than the crowded mess that is the regular course. Less people, less heat, less wind, more shade, also more humidity.

Cliff Drive. A tale of two courses. Heavily wooded front nine with length, hills, and usually wind on the back. Huge tee pads.

Wyco. Always has been a beautiful coursre with all the mature Oaks. Plays long, but has a good challengin design also that will test you. Many par 3.5's. I say play this because in another year, this one will be gone. To be removed for soccer fields!

awsome thanks mike all good info . I do like dense trees and hill . I accually prefer course that DON'T play like typical Kansas course cause I am not from Kansas. I grew up playing courses in thick woods and hills and brush.

I noticed you mentioned courses that aren't listed in the KDGA course directory : water works, Younge park and Cliff drive. Could some one put them in there and up date them with directions?
Or could some one just post the directions here for now so I can find them on a map? also swoop park isn't in the directory either.

I have to 2nd Mike's comment about Waterworks....This course is in my top 5 courses I've ever played. If you've played swope before, don't waste your time playing it again. Play WW, Cliff Drive (kinda bad part of town) and RD downunder if it's not wet. Also, another kick butt course is in Marshall MO, about an hour east of KC on Int 70. I heard they have two courses there now. I drive all the way there from ICT about once a year just to play it.

Mike, I heard that the course at WYCO is staying afterall. They are not losing it. WHEW HOO!!!!!

This site literally has it all. It did what the PDGA course review system could not. It'll give you reviews, ratings, descriptions, updates, pictures, directions, coordinates, distances to neighboring courses, a large forum. You name it, they have it. I always use it when I'm planning to play some disc golf on trips.

For KC courses, you can also see Kcfdc.org. They re-did their website recently.

ahhhhhh ... I never thought of that . (slaps forehead) Duh ! I keep forgetting that most of KC is in Missouri. Well then why the heck is it called Kansas city if its not in Kansas? lol

Chucker9 what are those courses like. Hilly ? wooded? Long or short holes? I like technical courses not long bombs over water.

I recommend good shoes for all of these. You're gonna do a lot of climbing.

I'd also recommend hitting Oklahoma Joe's at 47th and Mission for some good BBQ. Its just down the street from Rosedale.

actually one of the BBQ places we plan on hitting is in the art district. i dont remember the name of the place but it has a big huge bronze buffalo out front. it's kinda high end steak and BBQ place but hey we are going to be doing it up any how. Maybe we will check out oK joes also . can never eat to much BBQ in the summer.

I always wear a short hiking boot kind of shoe that has really good tread on it. the only draw back to those shoes is that if its muddy, like it is out at derby after a rain, the mud tends to build up and make the shoes weigh about the same as a cinder block.lol But I am up for some climing and hiking . Sure will beat this dang flat as a 10 year old girl stuff they have out here.

Marshall is hilly and technical and wooded. I haven't see the 2nd course that I keep hearing about @ Marshall. Again, Waterworks is a must. Rosedale down under is probably the most technical in KC, in my opinon. Cliff drive has some long holes, but the elevation changes make some them see shorter. After 4 days of playing in KC, you will be tired of hills and trees.....BBQ, in KC, say it isn't so......I like Jack Stack, get the burnt ends and the beans if you go. There are a couple of them in KC I think....I go the the one a 95th and Metcalf, south side of KC. Have fun.

I've played the Blue Springs course- it's awesome!
I feel that WaterWorks is always a must play if you're in KC...
& Rosedale down under- especially since it's shaded

I played the blue springs course Wednesday at their league, it's VERY tough, but worth the trip. I recommend playing from all long teepads, the shorts are set up for beginners/youth and is a pitch and putt.

Also enjoy Rosedale, since it has the up top course, and a second course "downunder".

Plus, like Fruit Cocktail said, it's right down the street from Oklahoma Joe's.

well I think I got enough info to be able to pick out the best course out there. Friday when we get in town we are going to head out to either cliff or water works and sunday hit the one i don't play on friday.. We are going to be staying at a hotel in the plaza just off of 47th. We even found one that will let us bring our dog. The BBQ place I was thinking of is in the plaza called Jack Stack. But we are also going to try the Oklahoma joes BBQ also. Saturday I am going to get up early and hit both of the rosedale courses. but I plan on hitting The top first then down under as the day gets warmer. I am going with my wife so I really can't go discing all day all weekend. This is her vacation also so we are going to hit a few atractions . the river fest is going on down town. also in the plaza on fiday nights they have at one of the parks an open air clasic movie night . Plus some out door music in different places. They have a big rose garden and A statue garden .

Thanks for all the info guys. This is going to be fun on differnt levels and we will beable to share diffent interests. I am a fan of art and that is some thing the wife shares too. she is really into music so i will enjoy seeing her have fun with that intrest. and then the discing. She is just not into it but likes to see me have fun with it.

If any one is going to be up there in town or some one who lives in KC wants to come out and play some disc. A guide would be cool for the courses. PM me and I will give you my text number so we can plan days and times.

Oh also i found a discgolf store in KC and plan on hitting it just to see what they have and maybe buy a mini or two from the local area .

Jack Stack is pretty good. It's a little fancier than Oklahoma Joe's. At Jack Stack I really like their burnt ends, and I think I had potato salad there too.

Oklahoma Joe's is more down to earth, it's located in a Gas Station! I think it's best to go off of lunch hour, as the line is often out the door here. They have amazing Pulled Pork, and their fries are awesome too. If I remember right, the french fries is a VERY large portion.
