BAG TAGS!

Post by smitty »

How do they work? What are the rules?

1) Tags are always up for grabs during tourney play.
-You must honor challenges on your own card first.
-You can challenge off you card if you want.

2) League and casual play is always up to you and the other tag holders. It is best to communicate if you are challenging before the round.

***How do they work? Hyzering Henry has tag #2, Facemask Frank is holding #45, and Short Drive Steve has #13 before the round. Henry shoots +7, Frank kills it with a -3, and Steve shoots even par. After the round they will trade tags and Frank gets #2 (the best tag), Steve gets the second best tag #13 (keeps the tag he had), Henry who shot the worst round ends up with tag #45. Henry did have an off card challenge with No Putt Brandon. Brandon had tag #1 after winning his card but +8 so Henry walks off with tag #1 after the round.

I don't have any (yet?)

I've already said I like the idea of a reordering of tags based on the tournament results. I know there is the issue that its a lot of extra work, and although I'd be fine doing that - I obviously won't be at every tournament.

So.... I was thinking, maybe a reshuffling of the top 10-20 tags. Because everyone wants a shot at #1 or #2 and off card challenges just get too confusing and things.

The top 10-20 tags will never be at the same tourney.

I think it might be fun to throw them all in a box at a big tourney, say Beloit. Then do a "Random Draw" so that they are spread out a little better. Chance are that most of the small tags will be in the Open division by then.

Just an idea.

Are they part of our sign up goodies this year, or do we have to buy them separately?

And speaking of said goodies, will that stuff be in Emporia on Sunday?

Scott-

Yes, tags are part of the goodies this year.

If Jason Adkins and/or Kindy are there, then yes.

Yeah the random draw could be a great idea. You have to keep in mind the tags died out for a reason and if there isn't some kind of new spin to them the same thing will happen when people inevitably lose interest.

I see what your saying about mixing them up, or the random draw thing, but why would they even have numbers on them? isn't the reason for the numbers that the low one should in theory be the best player in the state? mixing them up is fine at the very beginning, i just thought the point was to get to the lowest number possible from start to end of the season. If someone loses interest in it, and needs something to jazz it up, isn't that taking away from the purpose of them?

Casey-

I can see your point also.

I think that one thing people can do to keep interest in the tags, would be do challenges at league and in casual rounds. Don't play straight up. Offer a handicap of some kind. Here are a few examples of things I know have been used.

1) Simple strokes. I will give you 8 strokes over the 18 holes.
2) Cali. Give the person the chance to play Cali.
3) BS rule. The person can call BS on you and make you redo a shot or X number of shots/round.

The only way to keep interest in them is to use them. I know the last time we had tags, they were always up for grabs in Winfield.

Its just that if you play the best at the tournament and win you should leave with the lowest tag at the tournament. That may or may not happen. People don't have to honor off card challenges (I've had experiences where I've been denied a challenge for a #1 tag) and it gets really confusing when 2-3 more challenges exist anyways.

Does anyone know how one might make the tags come into play at random flip double leagues.
Ideas or experience?

Being some one who playes in the AM division I would be more apt to play against a pro with real hopes of winning a lower tag number if i was allowed a handicap or maybe just a set number of mulligans. I can imagine that the pro sure wouldn't want to lose a tag against an AM thats getting 15 stroke handicap at Oak park when the AM can shout the course at 8 over with out the handicap. So it has to be fair . thats why i think mulligans could work. Give a novice or AM 9 Mulligans that they could use for any shot they want. It still makes the Novice or AM really work for the win and yet gives them a good chance to shine. You could even use the comination of handicap and mulligans. For instance I would play against someone of the caliber of Mike S or Jeff ring for a tag if I was givin a 4 handicap and 5 mulligans on Blue tee pads. I would have to still throw an awsome game to shoot even or maybe even 2 under if I use my Mulligans right. That is if i had a Tag.

I do agree with this and I think its very possible to make happen
