We will start no more then 2 hours after the awards at Thomas Park.

Non KDGA members are welcome at the Banquet. They will need to pay for their meal. All KDGA members qualified for the finals or not are covered by the KDGA.

What a great night!! To those who didnt come you REALLY missed out. Congrats to my boy Crispin on another championship! You are great player and a equally good friend!..I wanted to add to what hit home the most to me from the evening.. The term "family" was used in a couple of speeches...For this <<------- KDGA member, this is what the tour is ALL about. Disc golf has brought my sons and me so much closer together as now we have something that all 3 of us love to do, and do together. I see most of my KDGA family members MUCH more than my related family members. And thats fine with me. Of course we all have family that we like more than others, and every family has the "special" uncle (Smitty), but I love spending my weekends with all of you and cant imagine ever not having disc golf in my life again.... Thanks to all my disc golf family for putting up with me and my crazy kids, We cant wait to see you again next year!... A special thanks to Mace, Smitty and Mike, as you all give so much of yourselves to make our lives better, if they ever open a KDGA hall of fame, y'all are first ballot!!

Very well put Jump_putter the KDGA is family and i'm super glad to be a part of it. Congrats to all the champions this year!! the year was filled with GOOD TIMES for sure, and i cant wait to do it all again next year. I will definatly vote for the Smitty, Mike, and Mace trio for the hall of fame, way to run the show fellas.

There is a long line of people who need to be elected into a "Hall of Fame" before Mace, Mike, and I even make the ballot.

Brief History of the Kansas Disc Golf Association

In 1988, the Magnificent Seven consisting of Buddy Kasner, Harvey Barger, Bill Paulson, Mark Jennings, Floyd Stone, Bob, Hergert, and Dave Stubbs created the Kansas Disc Golf Association (KDGA). The KDGA was established as a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting disc golf in the state of Kansas. This was accomplished by offering memberships to the organization and by organizing a state wide tour for Kansas residents. The tour quickly coined the phrase “Oz Tour,” and is currently in its 17th annual year (there was no tour in 1998).

Throughout the years, the leadership roles in the KDGA were passed around as key players relocated, lost interest or were too burdened by the overwhelming responsibilities involved. As the organization grew, the sport and birth of new courses grew. As a result, more courses have been added to the tour. The original 1988 “Oz Tour” consisted of McPherson, Herrington, Topeka, Wichita, Parsons, Hutchinson, Salina, Hays, Winfiled, and Lindsborg.

In 1997, Harvey Barger and Buddy Kasner, the last of the Magnificent Seven, resigned their leadership roles involved in the KDGA. As a result there was no Oz Tour in 1998. There are many individuals who played integral roles in the growth of the KDGA. Scott Reeks revived the KDGA and the Oz Tour in 1999 after a one year lapse in the organization. The KDGA also went online with the URL http://www.kansasdiscgolf.com webpage in 1999.

After the 2002 season, Scott turned the KDGA over to Chris Smith, Brandon Mace, Kyle Klinger, and Jon Cunningham. In 2006 the KDGA divided the state into five regions and each region has a regional coordinator. The regional coordinators oversee the events in his/her region. Their duties include collecting KDGA money from events in their region, distribution of KDGA packages to members in their region.. They will also act as a discipline committee if a problem comes up during the year. The coordinators and regions are as follows: Western Region, Don Mordecai; Eastern Region, Eric McCabe; Central Region, Brandon Mace; Southwest Region, Randy Mattingly; and South Central Region, Shan Mann

Last year there were 64 members in the KDGA, and there were 31 stops on the tour. There are divisions for all players at all skill levels, and one need not be a member to compete.

In 1999, Scott Reeks initiated the course improvement fund for the KDGA. It was agreed that a small percentage of membership dues would be set aside for the purpose of improving and maintaining courses. Currently, the course improvement fund is $1660.00. Disc golfers interested in receiving funds from the KDGA should submit a request to the appropriate regional coordinator. The KDGA also requests that the city or club applying for the money provide matching funds.

The annual KDGA membership fee is $25. This year Members will receive a player’s package that includes a KDGA t-shirt, mini, and license plate. Membership also includes a KDGA sponsored Bar-b-Queue at the Beloit tournament and dinner at the end of the year Banquet. The rest of the membership funds are applied to the end of the year tournament. This years format will feature a double elimination match play tournament for the top third of each division.
