Great Bend course losing a hole for a dog park

Post by scarpfish »

Well, I decided to take a day trip today to go play some area courses. After a round in Ellsworth, I decided to head to Veterans Park in Great Bend and after fighting the fierce wind for about seven holes (and watching my Drone of all discs FLIP and go over the railroad tracks), I decided to call it quits.

Of course, I soon realized it was just as well that I quit because where Hole 11 now stands, there are fence posts in the ground for a new off leash dog area. Hole 8's basket (blind pin behind the bush) is also dangerously close to where this fence will go up. A RHBH hyzer is pretty much going to have to go over the fenced off area.

Anybody know if we have a course contact in GB who might know if there are plans to perhaps do some redesign to preserve the flow and minimize potential danger? The PDGA website says its the Visitor's Bereau.

If you've played the Great Bend course, I would encourage you to contact the parks department and relay your concerns. I doubt there is anything we can do to stop the dog park from being constructed as it is already going up, but perhaps if the parks department got word of how much visitors enjoyed the course, they may perhaps consider some improvements. I also noticed two of the tee signs are missing and a third one is starting to come out of the ground.

Nick Gregory is/was the contact for the GB course. He worked for the city.
