Ok, who has them?

And what about the history for the #1 tag? Last I heard, Shan Mann had it.

I've got Double Oh Seven for the time be-an.

I had i#1 two weeks ago for a day, until the rematch. I had won it in a Cherry St Three hole play off, then smitty beat me by 18 strokes the next day. He still has it.

So who ended up with what tag? It is still 2008. Maybe we could keep going and do a tag tourney at the end of December.

Tags, tags, tags. A huge deal to some and not worth a bit of diff to others. I used to not like them because I was dissatisfied unless I had a top tag. Now I think it is fun because it gets players motivated to play.

But do they actually have a significance in a tag tournament or whatever? If not, who cares who keeps what tag? Probably because those top 10 tags are so hard to get. That's the biggest problem I see with tags. There are over 125 of the things, so where is the fun competing for either #89 or $112.

Here is an idea I had just now. It probably wouldn't work, but perhaps it could be refined. You could make 4-5 different colors or styles for the tag and number them within each type. Then you'd have 4-5 #1's, #2's, etc. The tricky / potentially interesting part would be trying to attach a category to each color / style. Maybe something like the region that the original tag owner resides. Then you could see at the end what region ended up with the most tags. Or something similar to that. Seems like there could be another dimension added to the tags to make them more fun. Just an idea.

I'm actually kind of glad we decided to include a bag tag along with membership this year. It adds a little spice to our tournament rounds for those of us who are looking at a remote to zero chance of cashing by lunch.

Kind of the problem we have compared to a local club is that people who are limited to doing just a few tournaments because of schedule conflicts or are located on the edge of the KDGA universe where there aren't as many members probably don't have as many opportunities to play for tags and therefore the tags they hold aren't going to get challenged for as much.

I like the region idea. Still, I think its going to just follow a smaller version of the same pattern. The smaller geographical regions with a lot of players will likely see a lot of tags changing hands, where the larger ones with not so many won't.

Another thing that tends to keep tags out of play are the same people playing in the same divisions all year long. I know some of the guys on the KC board have been complaining about that.

I've always thought the best way to encourage tag play would be to give the 'champion' incentive to put it on the line by forcing the 'challenger' to put a set amount of cash on the line. The more prestigious the tag, the higher the sum. Say something like the following:

Tag# (Color Range) - Wager$ (from same color range/ from lower color range)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#1 (Gold) - (NA/$6)
#2-10 (Silver) - ($4/$5)
#11-25 (Blue) - ($3/$4)
#26-50 (Red) - ($2/$3)
#51-100 (Green) - ($1/$2)
#101+ (Purple) - ($1/NA)

Perhaps a one color range restriction for challengers?

Granted, that might take the fun out of tag play for some folks. Maybe we could have 'free' tags included with membership, and have people who enjoy tag play buy from a separate set of tags (say $10 each) for money play.

Or we could hide all the bagtags throughout Kansas with GPS coordinates. Hide the top 10 tags good, like in an eagle's nest or something. Give hints for when those treasure seakers with their Garmin's get close.

Oh, and I've got tag #121, I think. I know it's purple and has 3 digits.
