Amateurs Accepting Cash

What is the rule about this?

I know that you lose amateur status if you play a pro division and accept cash.

But what about final nine skins or ace money? Someone told me that this also meant giving up amateur status. Can this be right? Why would everyone be paying into the ace fund if they cannot win it?

There's a gray area there. Kinda like the gray area where you've accepted cash as a pro but play am.

If you are below 955 you can play amateur regardless of accepting cash or not.

i think once you accept cash, you are a pro. you can apply to have your amateur status reinstated if your rating is a certain level.....955 sounds right.

Is it true that you can't accept ace money either? What happens if an amateur aces? Are they offered equivalent prizes instead of money?

I know I took $150 one year at the Glass Blown as we were putting for the ace money. I never heard anything about this until this year's Am Worlds.

I believe "ace money" is okay. I've never heard of it causing a problem. I think the prohibition is against taking cash as a competition payout.

Mike, this discussion on the PDGA boards might answer your question. (Or might make you even more befuddled).

I always thought ace fund money was a separate matter from winnings.

Chuck himself says what I already have, that is why I posted it

.
Let me get this straight....My rating is 943 and I cashed in Open in my last tourney (which I took the cash) . There is an Am Tournament this weekend. Can I play Advanced?

Chuck Kennedy : Yes.

You can accept Ace Cash as it is not part of a payout. If your rating is below 955 and you cash in Pro, you can still play amateur, you just can not play in a major championship (unless you are granted amnesty). My understanding is then once your rating exceeds 955, then you cannot play amateur anymore since you would have already accepted cash.

You can play in any division that your age and rating allow. It is my understanding that you can't get an invite to AM worlds once you take the money. If you don't care about that, then you can flip flop all you want.
