Chronology of Kansas courses
More on course history:
Crestview Park led by Scott (not sure of his last name right now, he died of a heart defect several years ago), and Chris Breit, with assistance from Carlos Mejia, Chuck Torrence, and others.
Redesigned by Bruce Hudson and DDDC, 15 permanent holes, later 18 permanent holes. Alternate layout now includes the killer Crestview Gold.
Lawrence - Dennis Vahsholtz and Bruce Hudson were both involved, and others.
Lake Shawnee - Bruce Hudson and DDDC. Originally post targets, then tire baskets, finally real baskets! The first course at Lake Shawnee was a temporary course installed by Ace Mason sometime in the 1980's. There was a tournament but the course wasn't made permanent at that time. There are currently 4 - 5 course layouts at Lake Shawnee but only the original course is permanent.
Rice Park - Bruce Hudson with East Topeka NIA and Topeka Parks & Rec.
Seems like Bruce might be the guy to ask - he also knows most of the KC history as he's been involved with the KCFDC since who knows when.

PS - I'm more of a lurker than a poster, don't hold it against me.

I'm pretty sure I have everyone of the shirts from the tournments in those days, Mark did a lot for Disc Golf in Wichita. I cant remember his last name but Steve? was throwing Herman Hill using trees for holes. And yes the halloween partys, we used to bring camaras for the flash bulb flash to light our glow disc. Mark, do you still have that talking bird? I started playing in 1988 when Riverside was put in and one of my long time memorys is of Harv B and Dennis V playing off for First place (OPEN) in one of the Wendys tournments.

Playing a tourney in Central Riverside would be cool. I'll bet the area has changed a lot so the hole layout might have to be tweaked. Also a lot of people that use the park now. I've never seen the original course, so I am curious.
Mark, let us know if you plan to sell some old Wichita or KDGA stuff. Better yet, come up to the Tick Ranch event near Wichita and auction that stuff off for the Kansas scholarship fund Bill Paulson is putting together.

The Tick Ranch event is usually in early February or late January, but this year I think they are doing something this December in addition to the late winter event. I'm sure they'll be auctioning stuff like crazy. Send discout (Bill) a private message and if he ever checks this forum again, you guys could hook it up.
Olathe-Prairie Center Disc Golf Course
In 1990 the Prairie Center Disc Golf course was planted. Ned Smethers was the designer and main driving force. He had help from various KCFDC members. Some people that helped were Ace Mason, Mike Mannering, and Mikey Edsted. Tom Butler came along in late 1991 and in 1992 Tom hand built and installed 18 matching double chain assemblies, and formed and poured 9 new tee pads. The baskets were later sold off and the funds used to help purchase our current baskets. The City of Olathe between 1990 and 1993 planted approximately 200 trees on the course, many of them per Ned and Tom's direction. Sometime after 1994, Ed Gonzales and the KCFDC redesigned the course and moved many of the tee pads and pin locations around. In 2005 Bob Hayett, Tom Butler, Bryan Guthrie, Andy Lewis, Dean Uhlman, Brad Meyrs, Rick Rothstein, Dan Forster, and the KCFDC redesigned holes 12 thru 16 and added a new long pad on hole 2.
In the Spring of 2005, Crazy John Brooks, who hadn't played Prairie Center in a long while, came to one of our Monday night leagues, and said "I haven't been here in a long time, but, the tress have grown so well and the park is beautiful, in fact, it is heaven".
I've thought that for 15 years now.
I hope this brief history helps.
