Clearwater is in. It is a very good course. Not super long or super short, it is fairly short though. The layout is good and the equipment is top notch. Another new kick butt 9 hole course only 15 minutes from my house..."Hells yeah".

I played the Clearwater course over the weekend and it is definitly worth the trip. 9 holes with two tees and alternate basket locations should keep you coming back. Jerry Steele deserves the most credit for this design. He spent hours trying to come up with the best possible course for right now with an even better course in the future when some more trees are planted. I think he succeded.

Rick and I played Clearwater. Its very open with some scattered trees. They did use what trees they have out there pretty good but they could use alot more of them. Good field grass out there and it look like they mow it regularly and best of all no stickers so the dog liked that. The lay out is a little confusing if you dont take a real good look at the map but with the tee pads you can figure it out easy enough. They do have tee signs out there also so you can figure out wich baskets to throw at because you can see several baskets from most tee pads so look at the signs to figure out where the basket for that hole is. They have two tee pads and also alternate basket poles out there.
We played the pads closest to the signs first round and the pads furthest from the signs second round. I threw 1 over for the 18 hole course so that tells you that the course is pretty easy. When you get out on hole seven you will see baskets that are further west behind the tee pads . I think those are where they are expanding the course but there are no pads for those yet. Over all it plays pretty simple and can be a fun course . We saw a few local people out there playing that have just started playing disc so thats good . They probably would have never played disc if a course wasn't put out there. This course if developed a little more may be one to go back to over and over again. For its first year though they have done a great job on it and I hope they keep moving forward in its progress and development.

The baskets to the west are not part of the course. Those four baskets are a practice course for the EDGE Skills course taught in the middle school. It may not be done yet but there will be 20 stations, 5 throws to each basket from varying distances using certain throws such as a roller, UD, sidearm or backhand etc. The station marker will indicate the throw. Play it as a par 2 course. Can also go out and play all stations backhand or sidearm to practice shots. This is the first such permanent course in the nation. The tees are marked with an Indian Head. One is dark blue the other light blue. These alternate long short. So one can play light blue, dark blue, long, or short. There was another design for this course that better utilized what trees there are but there were other issues with that. This design resolved all the other issues and left room to put some more trees in where we want them. If that happens in a timely manner, this course will get better and better as time goes on. As for people playing from clearwater, Jerry Steele the designer played back in the 80's with me before he moved to Oklahoma. The cross crountry coaches regularly took their kids to a course when they traveled. In fact, they were at the Derby tournament. In a few years, you should see some good golfers coming out of this area.

Played Clearwater today. Liked it. Well done.

Really liked those blue baskets that are installed there. Are those the Monkey Trap baskets that Russ Burns makes?

A bit off topic, here.

I have a Monkey trap. I like the design of the top and cage, but the chains on mine I don't really care for. They are not the standard 2/0 size chain, and I think they are heavier. It feels like since they are heavier, when your putter hits the chains, it deflects off and misses. A lighter or "normal" chain would give more and catch more putts, I feel.

I bought some chain at Lowe's to fix some of the local baskets. I'm going to redo the chains on my Monkey trap when I get a chance to grab some more chain. You can buy 10' lengths pre-cut at Lowe's for $9.96, or by the foot for $1.15 a foot. If you buy it locally in Winfield, it's $2.38 per foot.

Bad News. So about 6 weeks or so ago someone ripped off hole # 2's basket at Haysville. Cut the lock and remove the pin from the sleeve. So we have been taking a basket there when we play it.

Good news, the city replaced the basket, since it is out of sight, the city pulled the sleeve and put this basket in about 100 pounds of cement. Come play the full 9 hole course again....YEA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wilson Kansas has at least 6 baskets (Chainstar) maybe 9. Course looks super short and super easy, but they have a course. Just North of the HS football field.

I haven't been in Wichita in several years but am going to be in town again in a few weeks. It sounds like there is a new course in Haysville which is only 5 minutes from my company's plant...very cool. Another new course in Clearwater, I see. Anything else new in the region? I have played Herman Hill, Oak Park, Mulvane, Derby, Camp Hawk, and Rich Ranch. I need to play Wellington.
