Having seen some of the early B and C tier results, I don't think the raised non-member fee is going to be the big deterrent that we think that it is. Of course, a lot of these tournaments are in parts of the country where cost of living is higher, and that extra $5 doesn't mean so much.

In many cases, I think that it was the high ratio between the membership cost and the non-member fee that was keeping a lot of people from joining/renewing. A lot of people can't play 10+ sanctioned events for personal reasons, and aren't going to attend Worlds, so they thought that it was just better to pony up the five bucks when they did play.
If boosting/retaining membership is what the PDGA wants, I think keeping that ratio in line in the future would be a good suggestion. For instance, if due to inflation basic Am membership has to rise to $45, raise the non-member fee to $11.
But to add on to what Ron was mentioning, try going to a casino or a strip club and see how far $5 gets you. Not much anymore. I even went into a Spangles yesterday and saw that the Gourmet Supreme value pack got raised 50 cents. No more "$2.99 are you out of your mind?" ads on the radio.
