All right, so you pony up and become a PDGA member. Why should a non member get many of the same benefits and pay only $5?A price that hasn`t changed in what.... 20YEARS?There were a lot of other reasons for the increase but by far, inflation was the biggest.Be real .Frizz could pay $10 for 2 packs of cigs. How much is a gallon of gas?
Buy by the year, get sanctioned tourney play ,people who will hear your complaints  a player rating every time you play(in a sanctioned tourney),rules to level the field of play(fairness),people promoting the sport, a cool mag.,what more do you expect!Oh yeah a new improved website with resources ,a national headquarters with a mini museum and staff that help solve disc golf related questions.A lot of dedicated volunteers working their assets off giving up time and money to help the disc golf community.
Play 5 tournaments and you could have bought a membership, just like it used to be a few years ago! Before you tell me how expensive it is to be a member, tell me about those habits you feed. I bet they cost more than they used too also! Just a disc golf addiction

correct me if I'm wrong, but even for 'current' pdga members there is a $2-5 fee built into the entry fees for each tournament. If paying for a membership avoids fees at tourneys, pays for the website, the clubhouse/museum, the magazine, and the player ratings for tourneys, why are there still fees for members? I'm not trying to complain at all because regardles, I will be a pdga member and continue to support it. Just curious about the purpose of this fee...

Having seen some of the early B and C tier results, I don't think the raised non-member fee is going to be the big deterrent that we think that it is. Of course, a lot of these tournaments are in parts of the country where cost of living is higher, and that extra $5 doesn't mean so much.

In many cases, I think that it was the high ratio between the membership cost and the non-member fee that was keeping a lot of people from joining/renewing. A lot of people can't play 10+ sanctioned events for personal reasons, and aren't going to attend Worlds, so they thought that it was just better to pony up the five bucks when they did play.

If boosting/retaining membership is what the PDGA wants, I think keeping that ratio in line in the future would be a good suggestion. For instance, if due to inflation basic Am membership has to rise to $45, raise the non-member fee to $11.

But to add on to what Ron was mentioning, try going to a casino or a strip club and see how far $5 gets you. Not much anymore. I even went into a Spangles yesterday and saw that the Gourmet Supreme value pack got raised 50 cents. No more "$2.99 are you out of your mind?" ads on the radio.

The way I understand it ,your membership pays for the stuff that`s already in place.?I don`t know if I said that well.OK,the fees associated with the individual tourney pay for processing of scores ,part of the fees we pay for your player rating, part of the overall insurance rider(?)And basically the costs of the tournament to the PDGA. Keep in mind that I`m still learning all the ins and outs ,and feel free to correct or add to this explanation . This seems to be sort of standard for organizations like this. For example you pay to be a KDGA member + a fee at every tourney.
