A couple of Joplin area players, Pat Wooley (PDGA #24509) and Zack Jones (PDGA #39550), have apparently lost their homes in the devastating tornado that hit there on Sunday and took more than 100 lives. Russ Burns from Disc Golf Monkey has been helping organize a relief fund, which can include cash, clothing, or disc golf equipment.

From Russ's blog on DGM:
The other change is that we will be raising money to give to fellow golfers in Joplin, MO who have been effected by the tornado. I know for sure that Pat Wooley and Zack Jones have severe damage to there property. The details are still coming in, and I am in contact with both of them. There may be more that have been hurt in this storm as well. If you hear of any other golfers please let me know.
If you can and want to help, we are asking for donations for the raffle. We will be donating the proceeds to the two golfers above. If you would like to donate directly, you can do it via check made out to them or paypal to [email protected] (simply put "Tornado Relief Fund" in the message).
With that in mind, I was wondering that since we are expecting a big attendance for the DooDah this year, I am wondering if the KDGA or ACDGC could perhaps organize a similar effort. (Due to not being able to get off work that weekend, I unfortunately will not be in attendance).
Any donation would be much appreciated, and if you guys would, please spread the word, both online and offline. If you have any questions, you can contact Russ at the phone number or e-mail on his website.
Due to inactivity the KDGA forums have been locked. All past threads are still available. Please join us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/kansasdiscgolf!
Joplin area disc golfers need your help
Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
Thanks for sharing this "Fruit Cocktail".
I will get with Rusco and see if we can figure something out.

Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
There are also at least several other disc golfers w/in our club that have lost everything or nearly everything. The devastation is unreal. Anything you can do to help or even support the Disc Golf Monkey's raffle this weekend at the Lake Bella Vista Open will be appreciated.
Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
There's a night tournament at the Altamont Course @ Idle Hour Lake on June 11th. I believe the ADGC is going to be donating any money raised during this event to the Joplin relief effort. Not sure if it's going directly to the disc golf community, but it's certainly going to help out over there. The tournament sign up begins at 8pm I believe. I don't have a flyer to share, but you can contact the TD, Mike Carson, at: [email protected] If you have nothing going on that evening and feel like playing some night disc golf to help a good cause, then swing on through. I'll also throw this info up on the Non-KDGA portion of the forum as well.
The Parsons Disc Golf Club is having a local Bag Tag Challenge Event in late June. We will also be donating all the money from this event towards the Joplin community. The PDGC will also be making an outright donation as well on top of that.

Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
Here's the most recent update:
Disc Golfers,
We've received some news that one of our own, Uriah Johnson, is at a Springfield hospital in serious condition. He has swelling on his brain and internal bleeding. Right now, that is all we know on his condition but the update was from this morning. Please keep Uriah in your thoughts and prayers.
Others that have have had their house destroyed or at least damaged include Pat Wooley, The Davison Family (Michael and Isaac), and Zack Jones. Please let us know if there are any other disc golfers that will need help and assistance.
Finally, don't forget about the Disc Golf Monkey's raffle this Saturday at the Lake Bella Vista Open, where the money raised will go to help the area disc golfers who were affected by the tornado. If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation to your fellow disc golfers, contact the Disc Golf Monkey, information is on his website at http://www.discgolfmonkey.com, contact the club, or paypal money to [email protected].
Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers as we all come together as a disc golf community.

Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
Last night we received a $200 donation from an individual which directly goes to the disc golf families affected by the tornado. I've also been told the Disc Golf Monkey has received donations in larger amounts than this. It's truly amazing to see all the love and support in our community.
If you'd like to donate visit http://www.joplindgc.com or http://www.discgolfmonkey.com for more information.

Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
Here's the most recent update on the tornado aftermath.
Uriah Johnson was working his second day at Home Depot when the tornado completely destroyed that store. He sustained severe injuries from a wall collapsing on him along with multiple other people. After he was able to dig out of the rubble, he was called to the hospital by his other job at the Welch Fire & Rescue to aid in the rescue at St. John's. While there, he collapsed due to the injuries sustained at Home Depot and was taken to a Springfield hospital for brain swelling and internal bleeding. Uriah is now home and is doing much better. He even got in a round of disc golf about 3 days ago.
Pat Wooley, Michael and Isaac Davison, and Zack Jones all lost their houses/apartment buildings along with many of their possessions, including vehicles.
The support all these guys have received from the disc golf community has been amazing. The Disc Golf Monkey, Russ Burns, led the charge by receiving donations from many of his friends and disc golfers across the country and held a raffle at the recent Lake Bella Vista Open tournament to raise money for these five guys. From the first round of giving, a total of almost $1,900 was raised and donated! I say the first round of giving because there are several other clubs & tournaments that will be holding their own donation raffles and raising money for the Joplin tornado victims. If you would like to donate to the Joplin (JDGC) Tornado Fund, you can find a link on our website at http://www.joplindgc.com.
Thank you for all your support!

Re: Joplin area disc golfers need your help
I believe we raised quite a bit of money for Joplin tornado relief at the Doo-dah. Dynamic Discs would have more info. We were thinking of you guys & you have lots of concerned friends in Kansas.
Best wishes!
