7 of the 9 baskets have been installed in McLaughlin Park in Valley Center. They plan on putting in concrete tees but I stopped that temporarily. Some of the holes needed the tees moved; some a little and some a lot. They will be putting in alternate pin locations and will be putting in the tees at that time. In the mean time we need to try a couple of tee locations to see if we get any negative feedback friom the community. Numerous other issues are going on as well but all in all will be a fun little course for the community. I will have white tee markers in and the other two baskets will be in by this weekend barring any unforseen explosions.

1980s Frontier Park Disc Golf Footage....

Post by Roscoe64 »

OK all you Kansas disc golfers, check out this great blast from the past....

This is of the ORIGINAL disc golf course at Frontier Park in Hays, KS. This footage was from right after they had installed brand new asphalt tee pads. Boy we thought we had it good back then!! Yes, I know it is different today, but I thought you all might like to get a glimpse of the sport over 20 years ago. BTW if anyone can identify Downtown Randy Brown in this footage, let me know so I can paint a hippie beard on him!! Rock on, keep it flingin'....

Those videos are kick butt! Thanks for sharing. It is crazy how many trees that place has lost over the years.

That was too cool! I'm not sure about Randy, but it looked like Buddy and Duece in the leader group! Strange I think I've seen that tye dye tank top before! Was Randy wearing a white shirt and light blue shorts?

Man I cannot stop watching these videos. They are great. Hole 11 sure does look different. Buddy throwing backhand, that is something you don't see often. I still don't know if I have a for sure RB sighting. There is a dude on there with an RB style pre-putt stance, don't know if it is him for sure or not.

Wow, just got a chance to watch these! Yes, a lot has changed, but amazing how the original layout has aced the test of time. I can see know why the history is so important to the Frontier Open. The Flying Bison have a lot to be proud of. And these videos are classics!

Was this the 3rd annual Frontier? Man, I think we've seen it all. Pink shorts, sweet mullets, "lady pro" using an over-the-arm backswing successfully, guy with knee high socks puffing a cig while driving... And what was that effect where birds kept flying over every time the camera tracked a disc overhead on hole 16? Water sure was rushing on hole 11.

This was before my golfing time. What the heck were they throwing back then? Yeah, recognized Buddy & Bruce. Was that harry guy "Bitchin" Bob from Wichita?

Really frizzy haired guy is Allen Rohr, Ron Rice and his lady Karen appear, Bruce Augustine; not sure but I think Paul Wildeman is shown driving on hole 1. Will post more identities later.

Wow that sure is a blast from the past. Tone poles. Real shorts not this crap that looks like my wifes capri's . The white boy fro's lol God i had one of those in the late 70's early 80's. Disc that fly like cheep frizbees. I remeber the first disc basket I saw in Minnesota had a 55 gallon drum looking basket with a steal cone standing point down in it with a dome top all standing on a pole. Harder to get it in the basket than it was to hit a tone pole. lol . Isn't frontier in Hays? gonna have to head out there and check out the course looks like a lot of fun. Maybe I can find a fro wig and some killer Light blue shorts and a tye dye shirt to wear and bring the blast back from the past. lol

This is awesome. There is a Ward Wickizer appearance on the first vid, kanoli name "Dr. Rejecto!" He's teeing off on hole 4. Almost didn't recognize him without his cooler and beer in hand.
