Recently, I have had about 5 people, I dont know, approach me on the course with the want to get better. They always ask me how they can acheive this. I tell them the same story.
Chris Oien tried to teach me 3 years ago this importance on learning to throw a putter. I tried and tried and couldn't do it and I eventually told myself "I can become a great Open Player without learning to throw a putter"

Not true!!

I have forced myself to learn it and I have seen it shave strokes of my score. You have a truer line for your shot, the shot is very predictable and you will always get less "skip away".

Today,I am excited once I get within 200-250 feet so I can reach for the putter.

How do I teach myself to throw a putter you ask?

Great question!

The Putter toss:

You will need:

10 putters the same mold
A temp Basket or anything that can be a target. I actually used to use a 55 gallon trash can.

Set your target out about 200 feet out.

Throw all 10 putters hyser at the basket, go get them.
Throw 10 shots all anhyser, go get 'em
Throw all 10 straight at the target...go get 'em

That's one set.

Repeat this step about 5 sets or as long as you can remain focused and fundaMENTAL. Obviously, the more you do it, the better you will get, faster.

Do about 5 sessions of this and you will shave 2 strokes off your average.

At this range, you will feel confidence from closer in and throwing in putters from all over the course will become a trademark move.

That really sounds like a great idea, I think I'll have to put in some time working on it this winter. Thanks for the tips!

KF, I think you're on to somethng here...what brand of trash can do you use? I don't want to skimp...

Canning your putt?

Was out and played a couple weeks ago and wanted to throw a few discs after we finished playing Frontier...

My roommate and I went back to hole 1, and started throwing some of my drivers trying to figure out how to do a hyzer flip somewhat decently..

I ran out of drivers (all 13 of them at the time), and decided to throw my Buzzzzzzzzz. I was pretty amazed at the distance I could get out of that thing and the control.

I know I've read several Discraft team bios who talk about throwing putters from ranges that seem INSANE to me, but I figured I might as well empty the bag and was once again amazed at the flight and distance my putters could take.

I threw my Challenger and Soft Magnet as far as I threw my Buzzz...and it looked so much more beautiful!

A couple years back Wichita had a day with sustained winds of 50mph. I threw a bunch of discs over and over with the wind to see how much D I could get. The tail wind was slamming the discs so hard that I could not get over 500'. Even with super flippy stuff.. What disc was consistently the longest? The putter!

lol...did the same thing in Lawrence back in '98 with a 35+mph tailwind...surprisingly my #3 Slice out-D'd everything!

lol II...did the same thing at Rosedale around '01 with 40+mph...and a 148g Scorpion from the practice pad landed just past the bench on #2's Tee. That's far for me!


What's everybody's favorite driving putter...?

Since it`s almost always windy in Kansas,I have always putted with a Roc.This has enabled me to can approaches from 250 on in.The offshoots of the Roc like the Buzz work well also.
When I`m 250 or less I reach for my putter.

hello Maine Disc GOlfer here. I do buisness with Jeremy Rusco on ebay. I love driving my putters. It is an aquired techique,but with some practice you can get it down. I can throw my proline rhynos about 250ft and my champion rhyno belive it or not 300-340. My freinds hat eit when i step up to a 250 approach a use a putter,when they have their buzzes out or even fairway drivers. Hows the weather out there. We are snowed in

18in on the ground and it is still coming down with 20-65 mph winds It is bad up here LLBEAN closed all of our warehouses today. They never close last time was the ice storm of '96-'97
