Yep, selling beer at the WATER Center. Day after St. Pat's. Cookout lunch provided. Beer sales to benefit the scout house. $5 of each entry to lunch, ace fund, scout house fund. The rest will payout 100% cash for pros, ACDGC plastic for am divisions.

Lea McCloud, Jacob Laha, and a large group of volunteer supporters have come a long way in efforts to get the Fresh Air Baby Camp (scout house) restored. This tournament is just one of many efforts they are making to try to gain funds needed. If completed, we could use this building for a tournament headquarters like some remember in the past. So lets help them in their effort, both with this event and when volunteers are needed once restoration is underway!

Are we going to be giving out KDGA points for this the same way we do them for the food drive events?

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum section. Not a KDGA event.

Word is they will have brats and burgers and some chips, water all included. $3 extra if you want a 2nd brat / burger or vegi-burger. Beer will be a suggested donation. Hope everyone is thirsty for a good cause.

Cheap entry fees. The $5 taken out will be $1 for ace fund and $4 to lunch as it looks like they will not have any food donated. No beer donated either, so they will need to sell a lot (ahem, I mean lots of "donations") to make any profit to go to the FABC fund. The ACDGC is kicking in the money from the disc inventory for the am payout.

I heard the tournament flopped. Only 7 people showed, so it was cancelled. I think everyone was too tired from the night before, am I right? With some better planning, maybe we could get this going again. Any suggestions to help it succeed?

I know I wanted to support the tourney but couldn't face another day of that wind. Two events on Saturday didn't help. And Mac's attendance was down a bit from usual as well. March Madness? St. Patty's? All of the above?

I would've been more likely to play 1 round in the afternoon. Or 18 with an O.G. final 9 and beer/brats afterwards? Playing all day in order to donate money seems like an unnecessary commitment.

Info noted. One thing I pushed for was 100% payout. The $4 taken out of each entry was for lunch, which they wanted to provide so people would stay on site to buy (donate for) beer.

I agree with Swede.

I didn't plan on attending the event, so I didn't pay much attention to what was going on. I think that people love to support and help raise money. I also think that people like to get something in return for their investment.

If you can promise them a disc or a shirt on sign-up they will leave your tourney much happier. The entry fees aren't exactly what I would call cheap either.

I really don't think that you should push competition and donation at the same time. Off topic here, but that is the one thing that often keeps me from playing the Wichita Ice Bowl. I know that the mulligans help you raise a ton of cash, I just wish you could find a way to raise the same amount of cash in not have it affect the overall tournament results.

Glad I decided to save the gas money.

Honestly, one thing that didn't help here was less than two weeks advance notice. Most people by that time had already committed to go to Mac on Saturday or do something else. Others had already committed their discretionary income to other upcoming events. Lets face it, gas isn't getting any cheaper. I would not be surprised if we see reduced attendance later this summer because of it.

I had asked about KDGA points earlier thinking this was a KDGA event. I honestly really wouldn't mind seeing events like this put in as fill in events on the KDGA schedule, and have us extend the 10 points concept that we use in Food Drive events to them. It might help with attendance.

The event was in the works a few months ago. You probably saw a thread where I was asking if anyone wanted to TD it. Well, nobody did. So finally Jacob Laha stepped up to do it, though he has never done such a thing. And he was working with Lea, head of the FABC restoration group, who doesn't know anything about disc golf tournaments.

I've been communicating with him trying to get his all the information that was needed, but letting him make the decisions. It took them until a few weeks ago to get decisive about this. I agree it was too late. The KDGA would have given us points, maybe even regular points since there were no mulligans, but we waited too long to announce the tournament.

As the tournament was set up, with 100% cash back, the FABC really wasn't going to make much money unless a lot of people showed up and gave lots of donations for the beer. With the crowd around here, my thoughts were if they didn't have a chance to win something, they aren't going to show. Just going from what I've learned from doing the Ice Bowl. If we just did $15 per man, we'd make 1/8 the donation that we have been able to make. But for this event, would $15 per head, lunch included, and some kind of scout house restoration shirt draw more people to come?

I still think it was bad timing. Originally they were going to do this on St. Pats day with the beer and everything, but they moved it off that day because of McPherson, which was a nice gesture.
