KDGA Finals info

Post by smitty »

The KDGA finals to be held Nov. 16th Frontier park in Hays Kansas.

Entry Fee: Free to all people who have qualified for the event.
Format: Kassner Match play

Buddy Kassner a long time KDGA supporter has proposed a new format for the 2008 finals. I will highlight a few of the details and explain how the format will work.

First let me give a few benefits of the proposed format. It will be much faster. The participants will have zero down time. You will get to play matches against nearly all the people in the finals in you division, in some cases you will play all the participants in your division. You are guaranteed 36 holes of golf, and will not be eliminated at any point. The brackets that were drawn up in the past never seemed to work out right in the first place.

I think the format does have a few drawbacks, but they are far outweighed by the benefits. First, there is little to no spectating involved. Many times in the past an Am group may have played along side a Pro group, with this format that is not an option.

Format:
Players will be randomly seeded before the start of the first round. This neglects any intentional pairings or hole assignments. Groups with 6 or fewer people will play on one card each round. Groups with 7 – 10 players will play on 2 cards, and 3 cards for up to 14 players. All matches will be predetermined by seed number on the scorecard. Play is a shotgun start for everyone, each 6 holes is a 1 vs. 1 match play. After each 6 holes a new match will begin. Playing this fashion will allow 3 matches to take place over 18 holes. Everyone will play 6 matches during the day.

Points are a scored in the following manner:
1 point for winning a match.
1 / 2 point for splitting a match.

Total points won determines the final standings.

In the event of a tie:
Head to Head is the first tie breaker.
Total Holes won for the day is the 2nd tie breaker.
Total birdies is the 3rd tie breaker.

Groups of 3-4 players.

Round 1:
Match 1----------Match 2----------------Match 3
1 vs 2------------1 vs 3-----------------1 vs 4(x)
3 vs 4(x)---------2 vs 4(x)---------------2 vs 3

Round 2 would be an exact repeat of round 1.

Groups of 5 or 6 players all on 1 card.

Round 1
Match 1--------------------Match 2--------------------Match 3
1 vs 2---------------------1 vs 5 -----------------------1 vs 3
3 vs 4---------------------- 2 vs 3--------------------- 2 vs 6 (x)
5 vs 6 (x)----------------- 4 vs 6 (x)------------------4 vs 5

Round 2
Match 1------------------------Match 2-------------Match 3
1 vs 6(x)-----------------------1 vs 4---------------1 vs 2
2 vs 4 -------------------------2 vs 5----------------3 vs 4
3 vs 5 -------------------------3 vs 6 (x)------------5 vs 6 (x)

After 5 matches (30 holes) total all points won and seed 1 -6 using all tie breakers if needed. Play the final 6 holes using the new pairings. Total final points for final standings.

Groups of 7 – 8

2 cards using random seeding.

Card 1
Match 1--------------Match 2------------Match 3
1 vs 2---------------1 vs 3---------------1 vs 4
3 vs 4---------------2 vs 4----------------2 vs 3

Card 2
Match 1-------------Match 2---------------Match 3
5 vs 6---------------5 vs 7-----------------5 vs 8(x)
7 vs 8(x)------------6 vs 8(x)--------------6 vs 7

Total all points won after round 1 using tie breakers if needed. Top 2 players from each form card 1 Bottom 1 or 2 players on each card form card 2. Reseed by pts won and repeat final parings.

Total all points won for the final standings.

9 – 10 players 2 cards random seeding
Card 1
Match 1--------------Match 2-------------Match 3
1 vs 2---------------1 vs 3---------------1 vs 4
3 vs 4----------------2 vs 4---------------2 vs 3

Card 2
Match 1------------Match 2-------------Match 3
5 vs 6---------------5 vs 7--------------5 vs 8
7 vs 8---------------6 vs 9--------------7 vs 9
9 vs 10(x)----------8 vs 10 (x)--------6 vs 10 (x)

Total points won after first round. Top 2 from each card form card 1 and are seeded by points. If 9 total players, card 2 seeds must be placed so no player is matched against x a second time. Total all points won using tie breaks to determine the final standings.

11-12 players
3 cards seeded randomly the same as 7 – 8 player format with a 3rd card. Total points won after round 1 and reseed top player from each card, plus next best from card 1 for the second round. If 11 players in group, the remaining players from card 3 are on card 2 in second round, so nobody plays (x) twice. Total points won after second round total points won determines the place.

Big thanks to Buddy for sitting down and coming up with the format, it was no easy task.

Smitty will probably go over a few more details on the format.

It'd probably be helpful if those who plan on attending could post here. I'm not sure on the start time, but it'd be good to get it going early.
