My girlfriend and I have Friday - Monday off of work and it is about a six and a half hour drive to KC/Bonner Springs for the Kan-U-Wyco. We are debating whether to stay in the KC area on Friday and Saturday and play a bunch of the courses in the area that we have not yet played, or drive to Colwich and play in that OZ Tour stop on Sat. and then trek back north for the Sunday event.

Just wondering how long of a drive it is from KC to Wichita and if the event in Colwich will be worth the trip. Thought I'd put this out there for some of the locals to respond to, hoping you can give me some informed opinions. Maybe if there are some courses to play on the way to Colwich or something. I don't know though, kind of want to run through WYCO again too before Sunday. Maybe could get out there early Sunday morning and get a practice round in.

Just trying to figure out what to do with four days off while trying to jam as much quality throwing in as possible.

Thanks for any responses.

According to Map Quest it is exactly 3 hours from KC to Wichita. Depending on where you are and how you drive it is probably pretty close.

If I was doing it this would be my plan.

Plan A-
Drive to Emporia (exactly half way to Wichita from KC) and play the Jones Parks courses. To get ready for the Super Tour there this summer. There is also a another course on the opposite side of town.

Then either stay in Emporia and drive on to Colwich in the morning. Maybe drive to Wichita and then get up and go to Colwich.

The Colwich course is pretty cool. It has a kind of Texas golf feel to it at times. Several longer holes with trouble on the sides, and many more technical shorter holes. It is also nomally one of the KDGA bigger events. Probably 80 or more people this year.

Plan B-
If I was going to stay in KC. I would play Water Works, you can never go wrong. Then follow that up with a little Rosedale action. Maybe even hit Swope or Cliff Drive.

You cannont go wrong with KC golf.

If my wife wasn't going to have a baby on Monday. I would probably be playing both.

I personally think that WW kicks Blue Valley in the balls!!

BV either needs to be a little longer, or a little shorter. IMHO

Some of the holes I really dig at Blue Valley. Those tees and signs are very cool. What would make BV a better course is if the back 9 wasn't wide open on most of the holes. Your right, just length doesn't do it. The elevation is nice though. 18 is such a cool looking area, with what looks like several shots from the tee at first. There is really only one good way to play the hole. What about hole 7? Can you imagine playing that hole on the new ultra-long placement?

Back to the subject....

I haven't played too many courses in NE, that is certainly (on the way). Maybe you have and want to try some new stuff in KS.

Smitty gave you some good advice, I would have recommended the same thing.

Colwich is a lot tougher than the short/average length might suggest. Wind is always a factor there and so are gnarly hedge trees (which they are trimming up this Saturday). The best thing about Colwich might be that a ton of KDGA members show up and have a great time, glad to be getting out of disc golf hibernation.

Wichita has 2 great courses to play. On the way to KC good courses are Emporia and Lawrence for sure. In KC you have Waterworks, Blue Valley, Wyco, Rosedale, Rosedale Down Under, Swope, and Prarie Center. More courses are in the plans for KC, so its keeping it's strong reputation strong. You should play some golf there.

As the TD for Colwich, I hope you decide to play Colwich. I will thank you now for coming and you will thank me later for convincing you. It is a very tough course that has yielded very few under par scores for the day of a tournament. The red and blue courses are both under 6000' but in five years only a handful have finished under par. If there is no wind, a 9 under is entirely possible on the red but your throws have to be on. There will be 40 plus home-made trophys. Not necessarily pieces of art but nice nevertheless and 40 plus will go home with something.

About a half a dozen of us did the last remaining clean-up on Saturday to make the course ready for play. We didn't get it all but 90%. Wanted to leave some for the next time! We opened up a new fairway so one new hole will be played.
