KDGA Match Play Finals
KDGA Match Play Finals
Time to start thinking about them. Here is a little reading material. Check it out.
Format:
Format:
Players will be randomly seeded before the start of the first round. This neglects any intentional pairings or hole assignments. Groups with 6 or fewer people will play on one card each round. Groups with 7 – 10 players will play on 2 cards, and 3 cards for up to 14 players. All matches will be predetermined by seed number on the scorecard. Play is a shotgun start for everyone, each 6 holes is a 1 vs. 1 match play. After each 6 holes a new match will begin. Playing this fashion will allow 3 matches to take place over 18 holes. Everyone will play 6 matches during the day.
Points are a scored in the following manner:
1 point for winning a match.
1 / 2 point for splitting a match.
Total points won determines the final standings.
In the event of a tie:
Head to Head is the first tie breaker.
Total Holes won for the day is the 2nd tie breaker.
Total birdies is the 3rd tie breaker.
Groups of 3-4 players.
Round 1:
Match 1----------Match 2----------------Match 3
1 vs 2------------1 vs 3-----------------1 vs 4(x)
3 vs 4(x)---------2 vs 4(x)---------------2 vs 3
Round 2 would be an exact repeat of round 1.
Groups of 5 or 6 players all on 1 card.
Round 1

After 5 matches (30 holes) total all points won and seed 1 -6 using all tie breakers if needed. Play the final 6 holes using the new pairings. Total final points for final standings.
Groups of 7 – 8
2 cards using random seeding.

3 cards seeded randomly the same as 7 – 8 player format with a 3rd card. Total points won after round 1 and reseed top player from each card, plus next best from card 1 for the second round. If 11 players in group, the remaining players from card 3 are on card 2 in second round, so nobody plays (x) twice. Total points won after second round total points won determines the place.

Re: KDGA Match Play Finals
I have an issue with the match play- last year, Tracy & I didn't really enjoy it. I think you should come up with something different for divisions that don't have 6 competitors.
It was pointless for both of us to show & just to play 6 holes. Then Tracy won because she got the only easy birdie in Wellington. I would've felt better if we had a skins match or maybe just a "final" round. Perhaps if something really awesome goes down at the end of the year, more women would be enticed to join the KDGA

Doubt that would really have any effect on the women in the KDGA.DUH wrote: Perhaps if something really awesome goes down at the end of the year, more women would be enticed to join the KDGA

The Match Play Championships will start at 10:00 on Sunday.
If you are playing, you will need to check in by 9:30. If you don't check in the matches cannot be organized. If you are going to play, you will need to physically find me and let me know you are there.

Re: KDGA Match Play Finals
Before we were going to have this at lakewood but the more we thought about it we changed this to Thomas Park. I think all holes are fair by giving the same challenges to players of the same playing level but has more chances to scoring separations if one of the players does not execute the shot.smitty wrote:The Match Play Championships will start at 10:00 on Sunday.

Is there going to be a set location or is that part of the fun? Where's Smitty!! (just make sure you wear a red and white stripped shirt, hat and round glasses)smitty wrote:The Match Play Championships will start at 10:00 on Sunday.

Yes, for you it is in Colby at the only picnic table buy hole 3.
For the rest of you, find the crowd of People at Thomas Park and that is where we will be. The only change might be if the place is a mess from all the rain last night and then all the foot traffic it will get on Saturday. If we change the location I will post on here as soon as we do.

Re: KDGA Match Play Finals
The last few years they have paid out an average $50 per man, with everyone getting paid something. If 40+ people show up, that is $2000+ the KDGA throws in. Mace has even allowed the ams to put their $ towards next years membership.

Re: KDGA Match Play Finals
Notes from this year.
5 Player divisions need to play 5 matches of 7 holes.
7 Player divisions need to play 7 matches of 5 holes.
15 AMS was a huge field.
We seeded them Randomly and used a 4 person division.
Second round we made cards based on Top players, Second Player, Third Player, and Last player on card from previous round. It worked but wasn't ideal.
We need to figure out what modifications we want to make to the system before next years finals.
