Being Ate Up...

Post by Schoen-hopper »

Never felt so good!

I shot an 8 over par 79 at Sim Park Golf Course yesterday, breaking the eight-zero for the first time in 23 years playing this game. Just goes to show you, with a lot of hard work, and plenty of extra cash to burn, one can attain mediocrity.

Congrats, Mike. I'm not familiar with the course. Where is it and what were you doing there instead of playing Hays???

I had other obligations this weekend... Didn't help that my boss wouldn't let me know if I was working the weekend until Friday afternoon. Too bad, because the Frontier has been my favorite tourney for a long time, hands down.

Sim Park is in Riverside, less than a mile South of Oak Park. No water on the course, not a whole lot of OB, and not terribly long. Difficulty factor is mostly the fast, slightly elevated greens and lots of mature trees.

Been playing a lot of ball golf courses lately. Cherry Oaks in Cheney has the biggest and best greens, but lacks trees and hills. Kind of a links style course that could play tough if the wind was kicking. Cheney is said to be the windiest reservoir in the country, they have a lot of sailboat fanatics out there.

Hidden Lakes is a great course out my way, just east of Derby. Plenty of challenge on this one. Too much hardpan in the winter, but the fairways are irrigated nicely in the summer.

Sand Creek in Newton is the best around these parts. Amazing course with GPS carts. Lots of character in the design. And you can play it for less than what a Wichita course will charge you. Lots of deals happening they will email you about.

Best course I've played in the Ozarks so far was Big Sugar in Pea Ridge. Plays through the woods and hills and there are some insane holes you won't see anywhere else.

Played a course in Broken Arrow, OK that had to be one of the best public courses in the Tulsa area, though I know there has to be a lot of them. The place was just incredible.

Did a golf / disc golf vacation in Colorado. Played a Jack Nicklaus course in Breckenridge that was bad arse. Fossil Trace in Golden had rock archeological site outcroppings right in the fairway on the signature hole. Course in Estes Park wasn't bad, but lacked the pizzaz of the others. The best I played was Lakota Canyon Ranch in New Castle. Beautiful mountain views on every hole. Many of the greens had at least one side against a steep hill so you could get lucky and roll back to the hole if you missed the green. Or you could have a "death chip" if you landed on top.

Best course I played in Kansas was a complete surprise to me. Played Shoal Creek in KC, MO, which was rated something like 2nd best in MO. But the next day, Iron Horse in Leawood (KC, KS) blew it away. Very creative design just keeps you loving it till the last hole. Very worth the dough if you want to play some ball golf in the KC area. Still wanting to check out Dubs Dread, Swope, and a few others up that way.

78 at Hidden Lakes! +6 on the front 9 and even on the back! 70.4 CR + 126 Slope =6.8 Handicap Differential. Busted: I missed league for ball golf...
