I thought of a game that might be fun for watching the Masters this weekend. Anyone interested?

All you have to do is pick 12 players who you think will finish well.

Picks must be made before tomorrow. You could post your player list here. But if you want to make sure nobody uses your picks to get an advantage on you, I suppose you could PM your picks to me and I won't open until tomorrow.

The scoring works like this:
The best finishing 8 of 12 players will be used. That means you better not pick more than 4 people who end up missing the cut. If more than 4 of your picks miss the cut, each player missing the cut will get assigned a score equal to the number of players who made the cut plus 1 (about 80). For the rest of the players you pick who do make the cut, you get points based on the position they finish in. 10th place gets 10 points. 27th place gets 27th points, etc. But if it's a 3 way tie for 10th, you average 10, 11, and 12th places just like prize money and each would get an average position / point value of 11. But you don't have to worry about that, just make your 12 picks. Oh, one more thing. You get bonuses if any of your players finish in the top 5. -10 for 1st place, -5 for 2nd, -3 for 3rd, -2 for 4th, & -1 for 5th. Add up all your points and all your bonuses and the player with the fewest points wins!

The Masters is my favorite golf tournament, by far. And I think this year was the best I've ever watched. It says something when the weather is that nice and you don't want to miss any of the action. We had Freddy Couples in the lead going into the weekend and tons of golfers in contention up all weekend until the very last couple of holes. Phil making incredible come backs on all 3 of the first rounds, but falling short due to one bad hole. Oosthuizen making a double eagle on hole 2 that probably rolled 150 feet on one of the wildest greens anywhere, then tossing the ball to some really lucky fan. Then Kucher very nearly making a double eagle of his own on hole 15. Finally Bubba mounting one of the greatest come backs on a very solid performance by Oosth. When Bubba got in the trees on 17 and seeing his lie, I thought it was over. Then he makes an incredible shot, then Oosth makes a great sand save, then Bubba very nearly holes the putt, but also very nearly runs it 10 foot past if he hadn't caught the cup. Drama on 18 twice with both players, but especially Bubba threading absolutely perfect drives on one of the toughest tee shots in golf. Then seeing Bubba drive it deep in the trees, knowing it's over, then Oosth is in the trees, then we see he isn't, then one of the most incredible shots in golf by Bubba, and the rest is history. I was rooting for Bubba all the way, but I just didn't think Phil would give any strokes back and honestly doubted Bubba could steady the nerves. What an amazing win and it couldn't have happened to a better guy.

Looks like you nailed the winning score on the head.

In your top 8, only one player was over par. Your points add up to 84 - 10 for a first place and 2x -3 for two third place finishes = a total of 68.

I think that is very good. I only had one player over par in my top 8 and finished at 95.5 - 9= 86.5. I had my family play this game with me and though Plamen did pretty good too, it was easy to see a score of over 200.

Maybe next year, we could add up the point totals from each round (I tracked this too) and maybe triple weight the final round and add it all up. I liked the 8 out of 12 part. Maybe some other refinements could be made. I like how all the participants have to do is pick 12 players.
