I banged one this weekend and collected 5 from each of the 3 guys on the card. Leo you just gotta play with golfers who have integrity... I always pay and Unlike sprout I shake mothers down if they try to come with no duckets for the show.

People only pay 51 when they have learned to pay 51. There are many areas which don't recognize such a rule. During the 7 years I regularly (3 - 4x a week) played in Emporia, nobody followed 51. I don't even think most locals knew other people played such. I only learned about it by traveling to other states. Why should a person be held to such a rule when nobody else in your area recognizes it. I never got paid for any aces hit in Emporia. I also never expected to get paid. The last one I hit an ace in Emporia with anyone around was 2 years ago, though. My guess is times times have changed and people around here now accept it as the rule. I am not sure about that, though, since no one has busted an ace when I have been playing.

Eric, I don't think your "always pay" "rarely paid" mantra has been true for that long. Emporia golf has changed a lot over the past 4 years. How wild would it be if Stoney, Toe Joe, Glenn, Gradar, Rezzie, and the Foltz brothers all showed up some Saturday.

The bottom line is 51 is paid only where there is a local rule to that affect and most people in Kansas have not chosen to adopt that informal rule.

I have heard people talk about paying 5 bucks if someone hits an ace. Is that "51"? Some people pay a buck if the person on their card hits chains or metal (is that where you get 51?). Now that I think about it, I have only been on about three cards in my life where someone hit an ace and no one paid them any money (accept the ace fund in one tourney).

You know, in Japan, the ace in ball golf is considered good fortune so when someone hits one there, the person that hits it pays everyone else. They even take out insurance for this in case it happens, and then they spend thousands for their "good fortune". I would like to see this kind of thing get started in disc golf.

If I on a card and want to make sure 51 is played, I always ask the group before we start, especially when playing on a course where a Ace if likely. Over here they do not believe in 51, come to think of it, they dont even believe in a payout

Damn, you are right. That was a friggn bad ass ace too. 340 footer. Okay fine, someone has aced. But your message implied you alway have paid. You never paid me when I aced the 100 some odd times in Emporia most of which you were probably around (slight exaggeration maybe).

The reason you and others including me have not paid I am sure is because Emporians' for whatever reason have not followed the rule which gets us back to my point.

If Leo and your point is to trash people who "never pay" but have no problem getting paid" then more power to you both. Here Here.

Lonvers and I both paid Dusty a crispy $5.00 for his efforts in Ransom, it must no be played in Emporia, because I didn't see Big Al go for the wallet.

Don to answer your question. The 1 does come from a hit on the basket and above. So I think that you owe Leo a dollar for hole 5 and Chad a dollar for hole 8. Please pay them the next time that you see them.

Could someone please tell me about "51"? Sure I am not big time or anything, but I have never heard of rule "51". Sound like if you hit an ACE everyone in the group pays $5. Where does the 1 come into play? Anyway sounds like a good rule, and if you want to get paid you better pay when someone else hits.

It is simple and you are right on your assumption. An Ace is worth $5.00 "from anyone that sees it" and if you hit basket or above but don't get the ace, everyone pays you a dollar.

My rule is that it must be on the first throw. I will not pay someone if they unload their bag or throw several times. Now if they used a mulligan in a tourney I would probably pay them.

I have to ammend your rule. I have always played that you have to be in the group to pay or get paid...

I know the boys in KC play if you see it you pay. The problem there is I was in a league group at olathe and otto slamed hole one. while his disc was in flight apperantly lookin good to hit it he starts yellin "fore" so my entire group is duckin and looking around to see if we are about to get smashed when you guessed it we all witnessed his shot slam and stick...

I say play with the group not everyone that saw it.

Kevin, first of all, I am not trashing anyone. I am just getting the topic out there so I am not having to pay people when they refuse to pay me.
Of course you hit alot of aces, didn't almost every hole use to be a 220 foot hyzer??? Emporia has taken a big change in the course layouts, which is what it should be, challenging. Don't you think maybe thats why all the "old timers" don't show up anymore?
And for it being a "out of state" rule, BS! I learned about it at Topeka league, 2 years ago. About 80% of topeka golfers play by this rule in league. Its not a money issue, its a gesture. I don't think its a rule, and it should really only be inforced in tournament rounds or league rounds, a common courtesy gesture.
DM4, let me get this right, you want it to be like japan, so if I smash a ace, I give YOU 5 bucks??? Ok on the that termonology, how about you come to work for me, and you give me the check at the end of the week??? Does that sound fair?
