Anyone care to go into more detail on these courses? Is Cottonmill Park at 6000'? What is the water trouble? What is TLazyL like? Are we watching our step for cow paddies? How are the 2 very different? Any camping? Just curious, thanks.

I'm not sure how you knew, but for the tournament Cottonmill is set at excactly 6,000'. If you've not played it before it is fairly technical with elevation changes, 2 shots across water(easy) and 2 holes that the water parallels the holes. The fairways are well defined but if you stray to far you will need imagination to save par.

The Watch Your Step Open will be played on the Private T Lazy L course.
This will be big golf. Round 1 will be from A tees measuring 6,450'. Round 2 for Pro and Advanced will be from the B tees measuring in at 8,235 ft. the course is more open than Cottonmill but still demands attention to landing zones and course management will be critical. The course features elevation changes similar to or more so than Waterworks in Kansas City and some of the pins are set in evil locations.

The 2 courses are very different. Cottonmill favors accuracy over distance
T Lazy L gives a slight edge to the big arms.

More info is available at Nebdisc.com

Hope that helped.

Exactly what I needed to hear. Still a chance I can make it. Cornchuckers getting excited about these events? Does anyone live that far west in NE? How many expected? I'd imagine the motel will have vacancy.

Kearney isn't exactly the size of Beloit, KS. You shouldn't have a problem getting a place to stay. Besides western Nebraska doesn't officially begin until you have to set your watch to Mountain time.

These are argueably two of the best courses in Nebraska. Cottonmill is probably the best 18 holes overall in the state. It wins that distinction in my opinion because of the variety of shots needed and the varied terrain. There are open shots, tight shots, uphill shots and down hill shots. The water is more of decoration than a real hazard.

I haven't played Dusty's T lazy L myself. However Dusty designed Cottonmill, so I would trust his design on his own land. Wouldn't you make a great course if you could make one in your own back yard??

Chad,
Drive time from Hays to our front door is almost exactly 2 1/2 hours.
The camping is primitve. But should be fun. Come on up Saturday, we'll drink a beer.
