Ok I have been wondering long enough. For those of you out here that retail golf discs. Do the manufacturers set any kind of suggested selling price? It has been a question that has plauged me for a long time. You can walk into wal-mart and pay 6.49 for Innova DX plastic. Then (not trying to pick on you man) you go to Mace and get the same disc with a custom stamp for several dollars more. There are many more examples of this sort of thing out there. I guess what really drove it home was seeing discraft z plastic in a store for 17.99 when I can buy it in Topeka for 14.00 and even cheaper online.

What up with that?

there's a shoe store here in town that sells tye dye champion discs for like 23 bucks each!! PH*C DAT

All I know is that you get a lower price per disc the more discs you buy. If you run through a truckload of discs you can charge less and still make a reasonable profit than a guy who is buying in smaller batches.

I think some folks charge as much as they think the market will bear. There is a sporting good store here in Lincoln who charge around $18 for a dyed disc that our club would charge at least $5 less for. Go figure.

Shopping around can pay off.

As far as custom stamps on discs go there are extra charges on top of the stock prices charged by all manufactures which include die charges, setup charges and stamping charges.

As for shopping online sure you can find discs cheaper. But don’t forget the shipping charges. I guess the question you need to ask when going on line to shop do you support the people that support your golf game by supporting your local clubs, takes time to promote the sport and sponsors your tournaments or do you buy online who offers no support.

Q.... this is just a bit to add to what Mace said...

Innova really encourages it's dealers to try and keep as close as possible to MSRP. I know in the past few years, they are trying to limit who can become a dealer, so that the market value of their products does not drop off.

I know of several online dealers (charging way too little for plastic), that are literally losing money doing it. Some of them are too stupid to figure it out, and eventually just go under. Others are basically breaking even, and enjoy doing it, so they continue.

Innova has price breaks based on quantity ordered, and for most dealers, that number is 500+ per order. For Discraft, it goes up to 1,000+ at the lowest price break. I do know that some dealers (after being with Innova for lots of years) get a little bit cheaper prices based on their history with Innova. I do not think that is the case with Discraft since Discraft will sell stock discs to anyone willing to spend that kind of money.

I am not sure about Mace, but I know Dennis gets his discs from Innova at a little bit cheaper than say I do, even though I buy the max amount each time from Innova. Probably something like a 25 cents less per disc (I am just guessing).

Either way though, I think the majority of the Public would be very surprised how much dealers spend on plastic. I have heard people that think we get Champion and Z for $5.00 each, and DX and D for like $3.00 or less, and that is not even close.. it's much more.
