USDGC Qualifying
USDGC Qualifying
Well as a state of the United States, we kansans have one spot to hand out to the USDGC tourny. Now I know in past we have had this spot promised to people. Well I don't think it will work like that this year. Due to the fact that multiple people are interested. The KDGA needs to come up with one tourny, (a PDGA event) to determine a state representative. I have discussed this with Smitty and we both agree on Emporia, 1-largest open turnout 2-close to centrally located 3-its a PDGA event. I have also have asked golfers through out the state if they would like to pursue such a spot, and I have received about 4 inquiries on the tourny and the state rep spot, so if this is you, you need to speak up now. We need input if you want it to be fair.

Beautiful day
I thought the Kansas USDGC qualifier was today @ noon here at Oak Park, it was a great day for DG, I brought my "A" game shot 4 down, beat my competition by 3 shots, I am the State Rep, right?
IF that is OK with our State Rep of course..... ROG

Oh, it's a long story. ...
The short story is that I used to go to the trouble to run a qualifier, but no one would actually go to the thing. I got tired of going to the trouble, so I solicite essays from any interested party. Honestly, I have been underwhelmed by the response. We actually sent Ken Franks last year.
It seems that there are a number of guys who SAY that they WANT to go, but very few who would ACTUALLY go if given the chance. Until I get more than 1 person willing to put forth the minimum effort of asking for the spot, I'm sticking with the essay contest. I threaten to take it myself just to get them rilled up once in a while.
It is the State Coordinator who has to send the name to Harold at the USDGC. They have to be named around the end of August so Harold knows how many spots are going to be filled by state reps and how many more need to be filled by tournament qualification.

Kansas State Coordinator
We need to remember that the KDGA has only a few members in eastern Kansas and therefore doesn't represent a large portion of the Kansas DG crowd. Of course, the KDGA is trying to fix this situation.
I sent Terri an e-mail to look at this site and discussion.
Hopefully, she will take a look and make a few comments.

Bob, What does this have to do with anything??!!Eaglehigh99 wrote:We need to remember that the KDGA has only a few members in eastern Kansas and therefore doesn't represent a large portion of the Kansas DG crowd.
Who says the Kansas State representative has to be a KDGA member? All you have to do is be from Kansas!!
I believe that last years Kansas rep was a KDGA member. Dennis V. runs a KDGA event in addition to being a great guy. You could do worse in selecting someone to represent Kansas disc golf, IMHO.
While the USDGC encourages some type of qualifing event ( a single tourney or a series winner) it is not required. Each SC can come up with a method of their own. That's why I do the essay contest.... at least until the pro community here in Nebraska gets their collective ducks in a row....

Misunderstood

In no way did I say the State Rep had to be a KDGA member.
I was reminding the KDGA members reading this post that the KDGA does not represent all eligible disc golfers in Kansas. Therefore, we couldn't assume to create a solution without coordinating with the PDGA State Coordinator for Kansas.
Hope that clarifies the issue.
