Which Lawrence course should I play this weekend? I only have time for one. There are two in Lawrence that I know of, and one out at Clinton lake. Which one is the best? Thanks in advance.

Centennial Park - park in the lot with the Polaris Missle on the West side - hole #1 is at the South end of the lot near the marquee.

centinial is medium length some decent elevation shots with mach 3 baskets and concrete tees

Riverfront is long with every shot in the bag getting used with mach like baskets.

Clinton lake has 18holes that are insane natural tees, elevation length and technical skills.

IMO if you can only do one and you want a nice walk through a crowded park goto centinial, If you want good golf and are willing to risk getting carried away by a mutant mosquito go to riverfront.

But if you are willing to pay 7 bucks to park and you want the best of all the courses in Larry town go to clinton.

It is kind of hard to navigate. I played it for the first time a few months ago, and it is pretty cool.

After hole 2 walk up the hill and play a long shot down.

You talkin' Riverfront or Clinton. I still haven't played either. Is Clinton really that good?

Centennial has always been a great course. Some of the longer placements combined with the trees and elevation make for some really cool holes.

Clinton is probally my favorite course within 50 miles of my house. The holes are well layed out most of them are risk reward, and several are blind from the tee.

For example the ninth hole is about 385 up hill with woods to the left and septic pond on the right for the first 350. if you hyzer out early you will have a tricky uphill side hill approach to a flat green if you leave it right you will be ob inside the fence...

Then the 8th hole is downhill with tree lined fairway 350+ turnover shot that really needs to be thrown low and around a tree...

What kind of crack are you smoking. Clinton is tied for second with the river course. It is a royal pain to always look for the basket. Most of the holes are dinkers with no real trouble. The ones that aren't are just blasts with no real trouble. The first 3 holes of the front nine require some nice golf shots but they are deuce or die holes.


While Centennial does not have a lot of trouble either, several of the long holes are flat out cool and the park requires a variety of good golf shots. Elevation jacks up the cool factor as well as the well taken care of park.

(Hole 9 at Clinton, however, isa bad ass hole for all of us weeny arms - rocket arm easily takes the sewage thing out of play unless it is majorly windy. Regular arm has to make a risk reward call that is kind of tough.)

Hmmm....sounds like opinions are split. Maybe I'll just flip a coin.

I have played the town course. It has a couple of kick butt holes. The hole next to the Skate Park has to be one of the top holes in Kansas.

where is the course at clinton lake? And my vote is against riverfront. I am not a big fan of split holes. I would have to call Centinnial my home course. I think it is as long as possible right now (except for hole #2, there is a pin placement that i have never seen used that would add about 75-100' if it belongs to that hole). It would be nice to have one or two more permanent courses in lawrence.

I played Centennial today with my buddy that lives here. We opted for it mostly because it's only a 2 minute drive from his house. I have to say that I really enjoyed the course. The elevation changes kept it interesting and I would definitely like to play it in the fall when the leaves are starting to change colors. Nothing really whoopy to report score wise but I did park #15 within 2 feet and I bet I couldn't do that again, if you gave my a hundred tries. Great course!

That course has been renumbered at least twice that I know of, so I'm not sure what hole is now number 15.

The old layout was with the skateboard park hole as hole 1. There are 5 holes out there that are close enough to parking to be called hole 1 and I'm sure at least 3 of them have been at one point. I don't know why the holes near Bucky's should be hole 1 when there is parking for the park on the other side. They should have left old hole 1 as hole 1! And yes that is a kick butt hole. I loved the 3 other downhill bombs through the trees as well. This course reminds me of Waterworks Park a bit.
