I cant speak for Derby personally but last time I played up there it was alittle rough...

If it got some more time put into it, it could be an alright course, but still has some rough edges...

even then its still only 9 holes

How many of those listed events are on this side of Kansas? Wasn't there a post that said, "how to get more eastern golfers"? Well if you really want more eastern golfers, then I would recommend that topeka and kc both not be honorable mentions, they should be on the schedule. But then again, just my input.

Yeah, I'd like to get some tourneys in KC too. I think the KCFDC may charge other clubs a $50 fee to have tourneys in KC. If we can't work something out there, I know we could have a great tourney at Ted's Dread. This is a course everyone should see. I know they have a yearly tournament in April.

Is the problem having eastern kansas tourneys in getting TD for the event or projected low attendance?

Leo-

Did you read the entire post? I stated that if anyone had a connection to a TD let me know. I included Olathe, Topeka and KC on my list of places that we would like to have on the tour.

I did get in touch with Dennis and he is going to host a tourney at Rock Springs 4H. Which is in the eastern part of the state.

I sent an email to every course contact on the PDGA directory. If I don't here back from them I don't know what to do.

Yeah smitty, I read the post, and I still don't see a date by the topeka or kc courses mentioned. Don't the kdga have people in charge of running tourneys? I mean, for all these listed events, who is running these shows? If its prodominately ran by one person, why can't that person run eastern kansas events? Or should it be someone from this area, and if thats the case, I just don't see joining the kdga for me to have to hold responsibility for tourneys. Beings if I had to be a TD, not trying to be rude, just trying to get my point across. I think if you are a TD in your home town course, and its a KDGA event, then maybe you should let those who do, take on the respondsibility of a TD, be a free KDGA member. Honestly, I just don't see it happening, but you never know, hey if the red sox can win a world series, I guess anything is possible.

Leo,

It looks like if you want it done right you have to do it yourself. That means why don't you just volunteer to TD both tourneys?

Leo-

The idea is for the poeple from the town to run the events. That way if any money is made it can go back to the local clubs. People probably wouldn't like it if someone came into town and ran a tourney on their home course.

Chad-

The schedule is based off of last years. Cowlich is on the same weekend as usual (Bill requeste that weekend). Parsons is on the weekend that their club requested. Manhattan was moved to later in the summer so it could be on the same weekend as Abeline (thought some people might like another chance to golf and then camp). Ransom/DC and Winfield/Ponca had to be flip flopped because of my spring break. I think that Winfield should have 3 tourneys. We do have the most current KDGA members here. The 2 regular tourneys would be played on courses that are probably the top 10 in the state. Most poeple haven't played SW in the new location, and nobody has played the new grove course. Ark City isn't even a lock for a tourney yet. It is on a church camp and will have to be reserved before anything goes down.

Todd-

If we could get some people to volunteer to TD a few events it would help out.

Remember this isn't set in stone, so if people have ideas and changes bring them to my attention. It will be final by the end of this month.

February tournaments

Post by Eaglehigh99 »

Any chance of having Ark City on 2/13 and Colwich on 2/20. :) Tax season usually has me working Saturdays by the end of January. OOPS! Sorry for the whining

Wichita's Ice Bowl will be held the weekend before Superbowl. I believe that puts it on 1/30/05. 8)

I have made some contacts with people in the Eastern half of the state. The following places are probably going to show up on the schedule. We just need to work out dates.

JC Sandsprings
KC Olathe
KC Wyco
Tecuseh (10 miles from Lawrence)

Things are looking better all the time. I will continue to work and get them finalized as soon as possible.

Also I cant wait to join the kdga this year so i can be 4 tournaments behind everyone who lives in the souternmost part of the state gives a me a goal to shoot for!!! Hell i might not even join this year seems pointless...........

Ponca has been on the tour since I have been a KDGA member. They do treat people pretty good. You get all you can eat lunch and it is a great spread.

I did contact someone in the Western part of the state and they are interested in TDing tourneys at Rolling Hills Parkk, Russell and Hoisington. Look for them to be on the schedule soon.

In the South West add Haviland to the mix.

Topeka is doing some checking to see what they may be interested in hosting.

If you are a TD be looking for a phone call from me in the next week or two.

Here is something that is kind of interesting. I broke the state into 5 regions. The interstates divide the state into 4 pretty even sections, then I added the I-35 corridor.

Here is the breakdown.

Section 1 SW Kansas (more then 30 miles south of I-70 and 30 miles west of I-35)
1) Dodge
2) Pratt

Section 2 Western Kansas (30 miles south of I-70 to Nebraska and west of I-35)
1) Ransom
2) Ellis
3) Colby
4) Norton
5) Hays
6) Stockton
7) Beloit

Section 3 I-35 corridor (With in 20 miles of I-35)
1) Salina
2) Wichita X 2
3) Hutch (may be in section 1)
4) McPherson
5) Colwich

Section 4 SE Kansas

1) Ark City
2) Parsons
3) Winfield X 3
4) Ponca

Section 5 Eastern Kansas

1) Emporia X 2
2) Herrington
3) Abeline
4) Manhattan

Wow. That's a potential 35+ tourneys! You've got your work cut out for ya, Smitty. There are a few that I haven't even heard of and several I haven't played.

Anybody played Junction City, Tecumseh, Pittsburg, Hoisington, Ark. City, JC Sandsprings, or Haviland?
