one of the problem with the temp course that will have to be corrected when the permenate course goes in is the holes that throw across or at roads. For instance the hole that smitty mentions ,the long one that you have to lay up on and then throw a bomb across the water. The reason that hole will not go in with that pin placement is because the basket sits buy the park road with players throwing directly at the road. Problem with that is the weekends and some week nights there are alot of cares that park in that loop because people fish at the dam right there. also the hole right after that hole we throw from the center of that loop in to the tunnel on the hill. that throws across the road and the park board already mentioned about safety and even having to prove we can have insurance for any league night and tourney. that tee will have to be moved along side of the road and back which would make it even more difficult than it already is.as far as the rest of the holes they are real close to what is on the drawing board. but yet a little different to . we have to remember that the whole north side of the park floods out when it rains. would you still want some killer long holes in that area cause i have been thinking of it. It would also make it easier to make the whole course flow with out congestion if we have tourneys out there. also we haven't even tried the holes we could play along the river on the very end of the road on the west bank. some nice narrow fairways with some trees and the road is OB. any how yes i agree though this is going to be a killer course but to be fare we are going to have to bust our buts to put in alternate short tees and or pin placements for the kids cause i just don't see a kid in joying throwing 8-9 times to hole out. also if you think about it that is probly one reason we don't see many women in the sport to.

I dunno, it seems there may be a few presumptions being made here.
To say you can never cross a road with a disc golf hole is sometimes impossible. If you are talking about major roads and city traffic, that is one thing. But a dirt, non-through road that loops through the park is different. Beloit goes over dirt park roads and it has a good design. If you are trying to fit 18 holes in to the area only to the south of the road and not crossing it, you have a tough challenge.
As far as women and kids preffering short holes. Probably depends on the people. If you make every hole 100 feet long, its going to be a 2 or a 3 for anybody. Regardless of how good their game is. There game won't progress like it will when they see that they can shoot a 500 foot hole in 4 shots now where it first took 8. Longer holes can also equal the playing field. A 500 foot hole it going to take 2 approaches by an am or a pro. With that said, 2 tees is a good idea, espescially because it is cheap and easy to do.

Most generally, when someone is going to throw across a road,I have seen them use the technique of turning there head to the left(just a little bit),and then to the right, and then throwing.I'm not sure what they are doing, but they usually don't hit a car.
My people skills are just fine, it's my tolerance for idiots that need work.

the hole im talking about on the loop there is a road where cars park while the people are at the dam fishing. there is no way we can put the basket by that road and then throw across the river at the basket. come out to willington on a week end and check it out the loop is usually full of cars and trucks. If we where to put the alternate hole there who is going to make sure it is moved before the weekend? the city has already voiced thier concern for saftey. an all i was trying to point out the whole time is i dont think the city will aprove a course lay out that reguirse us to throw across park roads.

I don't think this has anything to do with why we don't have more women in disc golf. I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that it is not as easy for us to just drop all of the responsibilities of a family and go out and play disc golf, and I think women are a little intimidated by the overwhelming number of men. I can't speak for all women but I know that I don't like to try something new in front of a large group of men. Let's face it, sometimes you guys are pretty brutal.disclizard wrote: also if you think about it that is probly one reason we don't see many women in the sport to.
And I for one love the challenge of a long bombing hole. I played in Dodge City for two years and there where two holes that I never had a possibility of getting in 3 but it sure felt good when I got a 4 rather than a 6.
The simple fact that there aren't as many women and juniors involved in disc golf is exactly why you shouldn't build a course for them. If they truly love the game they will play any course they have access to. If you are really wanting to get more women involved you need to have a clinic on a weekend, but let women players run it and have the men stay home and baby-sit
