Colwich Tourney

Post by discscout »

The Colwich tourney is coming up soon, Feb 19th this year is a Saturday. There has been a lot of work getting the course ready along with a new blue fairway on 17 cut out. There was a lot of damage from the ice storm and all of it will not be cleaned up as you will see when you come to play but will not be a problem as the fairways will be in better condition than years past. I am expecting good weather this year, so be ready for some hot golfing on one of the toughest courses in Kansas. (I've heard Ted's Dread is tougher). Only four people out of 120 people came in under par when we played the red and blue tees. There are short holes and long, just not too many inbetween. If we have a windless day with decent temps, i expect a lot more under par this year as the course is getting cleaned up better. See you there or be square.

We have been working frantically trying to get the course ready for this weekends tourney but there is one problem that we can not fix if it develops. Currently the creek is up to the bottom of the bridges. I thought it would be down by now (Monday) but it is not down a particle from yesterday. If we get more rain in the middle of the week or on Friday, the bridges, at least some of them, will be under water and the course will be unplayable. I will monitor this and post a reply on Friday. So before you leave on Saturday, check the internet or call me at home 316-755-2681 or on the cell 316-650-9759. Thanks; Bill

That could be a mess, if people make the trip and you have had to call the event. I am going to go and put on my indian outfit and do an antirain dance.

Some quick partial results for what I remember of the tournament today:

Open (7 players):
Babbit 111
Cunningham 115
Needles 115
Shoenhumper 118
Randy/Other NB guy tied at 123
Joe Hesting ??

Harv and Dave tied for 1st in Masters with a 117

Advanced:
Scuba Steve crushed everyone with a 113. He shot an even the first round.. Babbit was next with a +4!

Am 2 (7 or 8 players?):
120 was first.. don't remember name
121 Cody Corbet
??

That's about all I know/remember right now. It was a good time, and the weather cooperated fairly well. It was pretty windy, and misted half the day, but no rain! We even won Ribbons! :?

Blake the Corn Flake made it down. The other Cornchucker had to be Eric knoflecheck.

Nobody was able to shoot under par???

A few holes were slightly altered making the course maybe a few strokes harder. There was a pretty good wind (20MPH?), and it was really muddy. I guess that is what kept the scores so high.

In my humble opinion, the afternoon wind was higher than 20mph. I saw 4 discs go over the fence in the afternoon compared to only 1 in the morning (fortunately none of them were mine). I did have the wind cause me to 4 putt a hole in the afternoon though.

I finally broke my three year string of coming in second in my division and won Am Masters with a 130. 8) Looking at the other scores posted, I don't feel too bad about that score. :?

Where was everybody? Didn't feel like driving miles to slop around in the mud? Blake did. He even let Buddy spray him down with his back tires. Yal missed out. Bill ran a great tournament and everyone had lots of fun despite some incidents such as falling in the creek and getting bloodied by close encounters with gnarly trees!

I made a mistake entering a score and it does make a difference. Bob Decker shot a 130; two strokes better than Marcus Sumner in Am Master Division. Sorry about that, any others?
