Happy New Year fellow golfers.
It is time once again for a new year of disc golf in Kansas and a new season of the KDGA Oz Tour. That means the time is here for renewal of both your PDGA and KDGA membership fees.
For the first time the KDGA is a PDGA affiliated club. I think that this year is going to be the biggest and best year in the history of the KDGA.
As a PDGA Affiliated club, our members will receive some extra privileges. The first you will be able to deduct $5.00 off your PDGA registration. You will be able to become a certified official for free. You will get a years subscription to Disc Golf World News. We will also get a spot on the PDGA forum to discuss disc golf related issues.
As a KDGA member in 07, you will receive several things for your $25.00. You will get all the normal member perks, 2007 Oz Tour t-shirt and other KDGA swag, use of our forum, possibility to qualify for the KDGA match-play finals, able to collect on the KDGA roll over Ace fund, free BBQ in Beloit, Free supper at the year end banquet. We will have some other member bonuses going to our members as the year passes.
If you are planning on hosting a KDGA event in 07, you must be a KDGA member. The scheduling of events is going to work a little different this year also. The SUPER TOUR events will be scheduled first. There will be 3 of these in each region, and will count as double KDGA points. Other TD’s will then be able to schedule their events on a first come first served basis. We may also have some weekends that have 2 events in different parts of the state at the same time, with the OK of both TD’s. The KDGA will also pay sanctioning fees for any event that wished to be PDGA sanctioned.

Match-play finals will be in full effect again this year. We have had much debate and tons of feedback on match-play vs. skins. We are going to go with match-play again in 07. For most players, it proved to be an intense and enjoyable battle. To qualify for the match play finals a player must meet one of the following qualifications:
1) Finish in the top third of their division. Any time rounding is needed, we will round-up at .5 or more. For example if there are 14 people in a division, a third of 14 would be 4.6, in a case like this we would round up and take 5 players.
2) Win a "last chance" qualifing spot at either the Dynamic Discs Open or Wichita Round-up. Each KDGA division will have a last chance qualifier up for grabs at each of these events. The highest finishing non-qualified KDGAer at each of these events will win the last chance qualifing spot. In the case of a tie for this spot, we will use the total number of KDGA points after that tourney to break the tie. If the players are still tied, we will go to the most events played.
3) Each KDGA Region is guaranteed at least one Pro player and one Am player in the finals. In the case that a region would not have a player qualified, the top Pro points earner and the top Am points earner are allowed in.
4) The final way a person can get is in by the "Frizz-Rocker" clause. This spot will be given to the player who has played the most events, and hasn't qualified for the finals.
Course Improvement Fund: We were able to roll $500 dollars over into the course improvement fund. We also have a plan for a fund raising disc, with all the proceeds going into the course improvement fund. Jeremy Green from Hays has been given the job of designing the stamp. He has designed the last 3 stamps for the Frontier Open in Hays. All 3 of the Hays stamps were instant classics, so we are really looking forward to what he comes up with.
Some positives of the KDGA from 06.
1) Memberships have been on the rise the last few years, 66 in 04, 64 in 05, 73 in 06. I think that 80 plus would be a great and reachable goal for 07.
2) Course Improvement Fund- We were finally able to give away some of the course improvement fund. We donated $500 dollars to the Emporia Disc Golf Club. The money is going to be used to help install cement tees at Peter Pan Park. We have some good ideas to boost the CIF in 07. One of our main goals is to better disc golf for all Kansas golfers.
3) Roll over Ace Fund- We brought it back after several years on not doing it. It was well worth it for several members. Smitty took the first $31 out of it in Winfield, Brian Shields nailed it in DC for $81, Brett Straight brought home the big bucks in Beloit $218, Austin Streight had a $109 shot in McPherson, Smitty $81 StratasaurusRex shot in Hays, Kevin Kaiser had a $51 dollar Gator shot in Abilene, Hammer had a triple kick tree ace during the finals for $75. That is almost $650.00 worth of Ace Money last year.
4) The finals had as close to 100% participation for qualified players that we have ever had.
