Congrats to Mr. Steve Mills for winnin the USADGC in what looks like a Playoff. Also congrats to Nathan Martin for shootin the hot round the last round and bumpin into 10th place outta 96 and also to Rusco for shootin solid and consistent golf to take 31st. Congrats to Everone who played.

Nathan-What went down up there? Word on the PDGA forum is someone about went to blows with a marshall.

it happened a couple cards behind me. basically the guy had a bad round and tried to make it up by stroking his card for anything he could come up with....the blow up happened on hole 10. the basket sits on a hillside. a NC guy named Logan missed his putt and it rolled down the hill and hit his bag....the other guy goes nuts....i guess after that it was an almost unbearable round. i dont know about threatening a marshall, but Logan said Brett threw down his hat after the round and asked if the other guys "wanted to go". the locals said Brett is a good guy but is known to have a bit of a temper. that's about all i got out of it. Logan is a cool guy and his mistake was not intentional. i just think Brett was frustrated.

Anyone read the course statistics at the USADGC site?

They are pretty cool. Anyone have a vivid memory of the course?

Holes 5, 6, 7, 15, and 16 seemed to represent good numbers statistically. Those holes offered more than 15% birdies and 15% bogeys. Were they good holes?

Hole 2 was the only thing close to a half and half hole. It was the longest, most difficult hole. About half birdie (4) and par (5). Typically, courses have more holes that average around 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 with just 2 main scores being produced. This course looks to be above "average".

Hole 18 looked the worst statistically with almost 80% one score.

Holes 4, 9, 12, and 18 almost didn't give up any birdies.

The course par was 62, but the field averaged 66. Not sure what the average rating was. What was 62 for a round rating?

score of 62-

Round 1- Rating = 970
Round 2 - Rating = 971
Round 3 - Rating = 969

Averaged out it's a 970

Compared to 2005 a 62 was

round 1 959
round 2 956
round 3 952

avg = 955

I don't see the course really changing that much, but then again, I wasn't there. How were the conditions this year?

hole 5 is about the only hole on the course i would complain about...easy birdie for a lefty should bird for a righty. i threw a flippy challenger all three rounds and missed my birdie putts twice and had a good par save from a terrible lie the second round. holes 6, 7, and 15 are awesome holes. all three it is very important where you place your first shot and not how far you can throw. 6 is one of my favorites; dogleg left, first shot is about a 320' hyzer followed by a 250' tunnel shot with the basket elevated on a hill so that the green slopes away in every direction. a 4 is a good score on that hole. i saw a 7, a 6, and several 5's...super tough lefty hole. 7 is similar: righty hyzer through a narrow gap...only can get about 300 off the tee because of the tightness of the gap. the approach favors the lefty on another uphill shot. the slope demands that you throw much harder than it looks like you need....probably 70-80 feet extra. 15, i can't even begin to describe how cool this hole is. i threw a buzzz off the tee every round just to ensure i would be in the middle of the fairway for the more important approach. again the approach is much longer than it appears....i used a pred each round for the extra D over a midrange. 16 is just a righty hyzer. i missed birdie putts the first 2 days and then threw a poor shot that got worked by the wind the final round. was fortunate to save a 4. part of the score variety here i am sure was the fact that the 2 meter rule was in effect on 12, 14, and 16. hole 18 is a very tough 2. it is a 340'(maybe) uphill shot that has a very tight gap 40' in front of the tee. i hit the guardian tree the first 2 rounds and didn't get a very good lie either time. unless you have a monster forehand (Geoff Bennett) or are a bombing lefty the hole is a very tough 2. hole 4 they lengthened this year...it was over 400 this year...the safest line is a hyzer but it's tough to get the D....more reachable with anhyzer but not as safe. 9 is a lot like 18 only the tee is open and the slope is more severe. a righty that tries to go for a bird here is asking for a bogey....almost everybody i played with just threw to the top of the hill (roughly 320 but sharp incline requires a strong throw just for this) and then the 120 left to the basket. i didn't see anyone even have a putt for 2 here. 12 is another cool hole. a little over 500 but it is reachable with a midrange (recommended) because of the decline. the gap is rather tight at the bottom of the hill and running at it brings the risk of going into forest on either side. first round i threw an aggressive shot and was lucky to save par. the other two i just threw a buzzz to the base of the hill and threw a gentle upshot to the hoop. as far as conditions go, friday was mostly nice...a little breezy all 3 days and friday night rains made the course damp on Sat. we got dumped on while playing 2-4 on Sat. it flat out poured for 30 minutes then just quit. a cold front moved through sat night and the temps couldn't have been out of the 50's with 20-25 mph winds all day Sunday. but no rain. i was wishing i had brought my pullover! the only course changes i can think of are: 4 was lengthened about 50-60 feet, 11 was shortened about 40' and 17 was lengthened about 150-200.
i can answer other questions if you have them. overall the course is one of the best laid out and most challenging courses i have ever played. the first three holes are all great. i love the challenge of having to place a drive in an optimal zone for the best shot at a three. my favorite holes would be 15, 6, 2, 3, 17, 13, and 7 in roughly that order.

Very good description. That course sounds bad arse! Bummer that the Frontier was the same weekend. I would have tried to hook up with you guys for the trip.

Hole 6 is one of my favorite holes and I was proud to take a 3 on it during my last round.

Were the pins all in the same spot as last year or did they move them around.

Also 15 comes to mind. A low elevated slight anny off the tee, then the ground does a major up and down to an elevated pin. The approach reminds me of #13 or 14 at waterworks.

my understanding was that last year they put permanent sleeves in the ground. the reason the course has to come out is the parks department says that the soil is mostly sand and the erosion would be terrible with a lot of foot traffic.
