WaKeeney Disc Golf Course

Post by smitty »

Good news for you Western Kansas Golfers.

WaKeeney is going to be installing not 1, but 2 courses in the near future.

From what I understand. One course will be shorter 9 holer aimed towards kids and new players. The second course will be 18 holes, I don't know if it will be 9 baskets or 2 tees per hole.

They hope to have a clinic of sorts this summer to help introduce some of the rules and techniques used in disc golf. I have given a verbal commitment to help run a clinic. I hope that some of you Westerners will be willing to help out, and get them started out on the right foot.

More info to come later.

The newest forum member is one of the driving forces behind it. Some of you may know Levi, formally from Winfield. It is his mother.

I am sure that they will be able to use help, as they get further into the project.

You may want to look at some different things if you had to jump the fence to get your discs back, add in some Western Kansas wind, and you could have some problems.

DM4, you need to get down there and look at the design with them. Brett and Tracy also should go and check it out.

I will be back in Ransom on the 17th of next month, I would be willing to buzz down there and check it out. Have the started construction on 283 yet?

Yep, would like to look at what you have flagged out! Sounds like fun. I know it won't be this week. I have our JH music festival and then we go to KMEA in Wichita (for music stuff). I will get in touch with you when I get back.

Going to Mexico during break, but will be back for the Ransom tourney. (Might be able to go to Dodge this year, but not sure).

Sweet! What's the scoop with the baskets? They used to be homemade. Are they recycling those or buying some new ones? I've got the day off on Thursday. I might cruise over there when Jess is in school.

Brett-

They are going to make the baskets in town someplace. The old basket were trashcans.

How did you borrow a basket from Ransom? They are set in concrete. In order to get one, you would of had to pull it out of the ground.

Is the basket back in Ransom? If not, it will need to be by the 18th of next month. We are having a tourney there that day.

Thanks, that will help out a ton.

Pretty bad when the only person in Ransom who takes care of the course lives 4 hours away.

I have already put 3 of them back in the ground.

Looks like #4 will be waiting for me.

It isn't a big deal.

I called them for some OK's on the Ransom tourney. I just asked her what happen to the basket, and how they got it out of the ground.

Smokey is in charge of the Rec. Com. in Ransom I think. So it isn't a problem.

The other point being made was the fact that nobody has played the Ransom course since Christmas. Or they would have said something about the basket missing.

If I would have went to Ransom, and the bucket was gone, I would have freaked.

There is no hurry, as long as it is there by the 18th, so I can dig a hole and put it back in the ground for the weekend.
